In a down to the wire battle, Detroit King comes out on top against Ann Arbor Huron

Detroit King  73 / Ann Arbor Huron 70
Huron started very aggressively and confident by going on a 10-2 run within the first 2:30 of the game. After receiving that first blow, King was able to shake it off and fight back, getting their first lead of the game with 1:58 left in the first half. Huron, receiving great first half play from 2021 forward Kaiden Smith, quickly recovered and went into halftime up 37-34. The third quarter became a true battle as both teams spent the last minutes of the quarter trading baskets. Led by senior guard Del’Janae Williams, the Lady Crusaders went on a 10-4 run and took the lead. Alexa Lyon and Siena Smith hit big long distant shots to keep Huron on King’s heels, but it just wasn’t enough. King would hold on for the win.

Scoring Leaders:  King: Williams – 29, Huron: Lyon & S. Smith - 18

Detroit Mumford too much for Chicago Hyde Park

Hyde Park 33 / Detroit Mumford 73
This game seemed to be over within the first five minutes after tip-off. Mumford started the game within your face pressure, especially in the backcourt and Hyde Park could not handle it. At the half, Mumford was up by 34 points. 6’1”
post Myheaven Parker used her strong ball handling and size to get to the basket for easy layups or to draw the foul and give Hyde Park a fighting chance, but Mumford was not letting up. Tiaira Ernest and Adoreya Williams were the Lady Mustangs’ energy source, leading the way as they get the easy win.
Scoring Leaders: Hyde Park: Cisse - 12, Mumford: Ernest - 19

Corunna sails to an easy win over Chicago Gary Comer

Gary Comer 31 / Corunna 59
Another game that was over before it began. Corunna started the first quarter off on a 9-0 run and never looked back. They beat Gary Comer down the court on almost every possession and played very disciplined and determined. Gary Comer struggled to find a rhythm on offense the entire game, only scoring 11 points the entire first half. Corunna got strong play from their starters and reserves, keeping their foot on the gas and never letting up.
Scoring Leaders: Gary Comer: Adams 12, Corunna: Toney 15

Southfield A&T survives a close game vs. Chicago Wendell Phillips

Wendell Phillips 44 / Southfield A&T 59
When two teams that are athletic and work hard play each other, you know you are going to witness a battle. This was proven to be true in the Phillips vs. Southfield A&T game. Both teams played suffocating defense and went to war on the boards. However, both teams were plagued with turnovers and missed layups. Southfield was able to comfortably maintain the lead until the last 4:00 of the half. Phillips, led by senior point guard Taneil Robertson, went on a 10-4 run and cut their deficit down to one going into halftime. 2020 guard Leilani Murray hit a three-pointer early in the third to give Phillips their first lead of the game. Southfield’s Cheyenne McEvans and Alexis Johnson quickly shifted the momentum by going on a 7-0 run, giving Southfield the lead going into the final quarter. Southfield carries that energy over and walks away with the win.
Scoring Leaders: Phillips – Bradney 10, Southfield A&T – McEvans & Johnson 22

Ypsilanti Arbor Prep cruises by Chicago Hope Academy

Hope Academy (IL) 38 / Arbor Prep 71
At the start of the 1st quarter, Arbor Prep went on a 10-0 run, led by freshman guard Mya Petticord, who had all of the Lady Gator’s 10 points. Petticord would not score again in the first or second quarters, but her teammate Mahri Petree picked up where she left off, scoring 11 points total in the half. Hope Academy scored only 11 points combined for the first half. Point guard Ashanti Davis used her quickness to get to the paint several times in an effort to help revive Hope and give them a fighting chance. Those efforts were soon countered by a 16-6 run from Arbor Prep to end the third quarter. Arbor Prep never skipped a beat in the fourth quarter and finished strong to take home the win.
Scoring Leaders: Hope Academy: Brooks - 12, Abor Prep: Petticord 24
