Livonia, MI: The Michigan Mega Scrimmage is the premier high school basketball scrimmage in the state of Michigan. The day was packed with some of the best high school teams in the state preparing for what should be a very exciting season. Younger talented players found their place and embraced their roles while some of the upperclassmen were exhibiting great leadership and maturity. College coaches from every level lined the baseline early to secure a good seat for the showcase of talent they were about to witness. There were some surprises and some confirmations. All in all, it was definitely a great day in the world of high school basketball.
Bree Salenbien 2021 6’2” Wing Adrian Lenawee Christian H.S.
Bree was the talk of the baseline amongst college coaches very early in the day. Running the court, blocking shots, stealing passes and knocking down threes were just a few of the things that Bree did consistently throughout the day. She’s a complete package.
Ruby Whitehorn 2022 6’0” Wing Detroit Edison Public Academy (DEPSA)-Black H.S.
On multiple occasions, Whitehorn was called upon to play three different positions, including point guard, and she did it without hesitation. Ruby has an unbelievable first step that often left her opponents chasing her on her way to the basket. It is going to be fun watching her game grow.
Rakiyah Beal 2022 6’0” Guard/Wing Detroit Edison Public Academy (DEPSA)-Black H.S.
Beal is long and quick and uses it to her advantage on both ends of the court. She has great handles and gets to the rim often, but is also effective shooting a jumper off the dribble. Her quickness also allows her to guard smaller players on the perimeter.
Mya Hiram 2021 6’0” Post Onsted H.S.
Hiram was a key piece of the puzzle for Onsted. She did a great job keeping the ball high on her shot in the paint, finishing strong at the rim. Mya ran the court well and was a vocal leader, especially on the defensive end.
Jada Garner 2021 5’6” Guard Midland Dow H.S.
Jada was the energy Midland Dow needed to play solid aggressive defense and when getting the ball up the court in transition. She often was instrumental in forcing turnovers and creating easy layups for her team.
Alyssa Keptner 2020 5’10” Post Midland Dow H.S.
Keptner was a great inside presence for Midland Dow. She showed her strength on the block, playing with her back to the basket and finishing strong. She is a tough player, always in the mix battling for rebounds or loose balls.
Cameron Grant 2020 6’1” Wing/Post Macomb Dakota H.S.
Grant was a great inside and outside presence for Dakota. Her solid frame allows her to post up smaller opponents and battle on the boards. She is quick for her size, which allows her to play the wing on both ends of the court, making her a double threat.
Jamie Moshenko 2021 5’7” PG Macomb Dakota H.S.
Dakota’s offense was very effective due to Moshenko’s ability to settle her team and direct traffic, even when the ball wasn’t in her hands. She showed great handles under pressure and in transition. Jamie has great court vision and decision making.
Rececca Morrish 2020 6’6” Post Flushing H.S.
A smart defender with great ball awareness, Morrish dominated the boards and altered shots consistently. She did a great job of sealing her opponent and calling for the ball. She battles!
Deshonna Day 2020 5’10” Muskegon H.S.
Deshonna is quick with long arms and a battery on her back. She played hard every single possession on both ends of the floor. Many of Muskegon’s easy layups in transition were created by Day. She also showed her ability to get to the rim and finish with contact.
Saniaa Walker 2021 5’6” PG Flint Kearsley H.S.
If there was an energy award to win at the scrimmage Saniaa would have definitely been a finalist. She continuously played outstanding on the ball defense and did a great job of not committing fouls. She attacked the basket at will, but also showed patience, allowing their offense to run its course and finding the open man.
Jakeria Wash 2020 5’5” Guard Flint Kearsley H.S.
Wash’s word for the day was HUSTLE. A great floor leader, she was the voice you heard most often on defense an offense. She never seemed to get tired, which was not a good thing for whomever she was guarding. She has quick hands and created a lot of steals for her team.
Sydney Walker 2020 5’6” Guard Flint Kearsley H.S.
Walker is a very smart and strategic player on both ends of the court. She had few to no turnovers each game. Sydney does a great job selecting her shots, including attacking the gaps for easy layups. She is also a solid defender.
Bre’naya Lane 2021 5’6” Guard East Lansing H.S.
Lane played great for East Lansing during clutch time. She handled the ball well under pressure, played great defense, and was often a vocal leader.
Ahlura Lofton 2020 5’7” Guard East Lansing H.S.
A hustle player with excellent on the ball defense, Lofton’s presence on the court was felt and also missed when wasn’t in the game. She gets on the floor and plays hard. Ahlura can also shoot the ball from both long range and 12 feet.
Taylor Watson 2021 5’9” Wing/Post Chandler Park H.S.
Taylor was a key piece for Chandler Park. She is able to be effective with her back to the basket and also facing the rim. She has a great build and uses it to her advantage on defense, guarding on the perimeter and in the post.
Sammiyah Hoskin 2019 5’10” Wing Wayne Memorial H.S.
Sammiyah was consistently aggressive and a high energy player all day. Her quick hands and feet along with her long wingspan allowed her to be the best defender on her squad. She got inside the paint often on offense, drawing fouls and earning her free shots.
Cheyenne McEvans 2020 5’10” Guard Southfield A&T H.S.
McEvans was able to get to the rim and finish strong in every single game. She does a good job of keeping her eyes on the rim, even in the midst of several defenders. She hustles and did a great job of handling the ball under pressure.
Jasmine Worthy 2020 6’3” Center Southfield A&T H.S.
Jasmine has quick feet for her size and did a good job of getting up and down the court, especially in transition. Once she found her timing, Worthy altered and blocked shots non-stop. She is a strong rebounder on both ends.
Chenelle King 2020 5’6” PG Flint Carman-Ainsworth H.S.
A crafty and quick guard, Chenelle kept the crowd amazed with her crisp passes and strong finishes at the rim. She was a great floor general and solid defensively.
Aaliyah McQueen 2020 5’9” Guard Flint Carman-Ainsworth H.S.
Her handles and quick trigger make her a guard, however, her solid size allows Aaliyah to play the small forward position as well. She is most effective off the dribble, driving to the hoop, but she does not shy away from launching the long three as well.
Sydney Pnacek 2022 6’0” Guard Dexter H.S.
Pnacek was impressive behind the arc, knocking down shots off of picks. She also did a great job moving without the ball, making herself available to score or help reset the offense.
