Jayah Hicks Selfless and Unsatisfied

Jayah Hicks prides herself on being selfless and hopes to draw a picture of her Wayne Memorial squad getting over the hump and winning the title this season.

I caught up with Jayah to discuss her summer with 1Nation, her personal goals, hobbies and much more:

What are some of your strengths and what are some things you are working on to improve? What are some of the advantages of your game and what are some things you are working on to improve?
My biggest strength is rebounding. I need to work on my ball handling; it needs to be tighter and stronger.

How long have you been playing basketball competitively?
I’ve been playing basketball since the 6th grade. I took a year off in 8th grade though.

What is your favorite memory from summer ball with 1Nation?
Hitting a big shot during a close game to make us go up. We ended up winning the game too.

What are your high school team and individual goals for the season?
Make it back to the Final Four, and go all the way. Individually I want to be selfless, every game we play I want to give my all, and do whatever I need to do to help my team win.

Who is showing you the most interest now in recruiting?
South Carolina State

What are you looking for in a school?
Good community and a family-based team.

Tell me something about yourself that not many people know?
My mother died, when I was 13.

When you are not hooping what can we find you doing?
Reading, or doing something artistic. I can draw really good.

I have had the pleasure of coaching girls and boys basketball, I know my thoughts but what do you think some of the differences are in the two and which one is better?
Well, I think girls basketball is better, I think boys play faster and tougher, but I think girls play with more heart.
