This week I was able to catch up with 2021 AJ Ediger of the West Michigan Drive and Hamilton HS. AJ opened up with us about her game, recruiting and a few things you may not know about her. AJ also told us about a moment on the floor she will never forget.

What are some of the strengths of your game and what do you think you need to work on?
A strength of mine I think is being able to push the ball down the court and attract from the inside and hit the outside shot. I think I need to work on finishing down low with pressure and my ball handling.

When did you realize you were good at basketball and how long have you been playing the game competitively?
I think I actually figured out I could play at a high-level last year and I’ve been playing on a team since I was 9, so about 6 years.

What was your favorite memory from Summer ball?
A favorite memory of mine would be just this past week in Florida we went bowling with the team after our games and although we are much better at basketball then bowling it was still a lot of fun.

Who is the best player you faced this summer?
I can’t pick out a certain player but Michigan Premier is the hardest team we played against.

What are some of your High School team and individual goals this season?
To win districts for the 4th year in a row, and individually I would like to improve on my defense.

Who is showing you the most interest right now in recruiting?
I have 3 offers currently, University of Iowa, GVSU, and Western Michigan. Nebraska, Illinois State, Northwestern, and CMU have shown a lot of interest in me as well.

What recruiting plans do you have coming up?
I plan to attend CMU elite camp, Nebraska elite camp, and a Michigan football game.

What are you looking for in a school?
I’m looking for a school that has a community that’s supportive and always ready to help. I’m looking into possibly becoming a physical therapist or personal trainer (Not 100% on that though because I’m only a sophomore!)

Tell the LBI fans something about you we may not know?
I am the youngest of 4 girls and I enjoy any form of art.

Have you ever had an embarrassing moment during a game, if so would you like to share it with us?

My coach has had to call a timeout for a wardrobe malfunction.... aka somehow the back of my bra came undone.

When you are not playing Basketball what can we find you doing?
I’m probably playing volleyball, doing school workouts, taking pictures, drawing, hanging out with friends, or watching a movie.

What do you think the biggest differences are between boys and girls Basketball, and which is better?
I think the biggest difference between the 2 would be girls tend to have more strategy and pass the ball more and all around just play like a team more, where with guys it seems to be mostly about 1on1 plays and how you can score. I think girls basketball is more fun to watch and play, I may be a little biased though.
