The Mitten Showcased Their Talents In Louisville

'22 Mya Petticord helped lead her Michigan Storm 2022 squad to some impressive wins in Louisville.

Louisville, KY: Many grassroots programs came together this weekend to compete in "The Classic" at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Ky. With only one NCAA spring evaluation period in 2018, every game was played as if it was the last event of the year, as players played in front of numerous college coaches from all levels. The event was open to fans and was well attended by regional and national media outlets.

Below are some of the "Mitten" standout performers:

5'7" 2022 PG Mya Petticord Michigan Storm Elite
The talented Petticord is a heads-up passer in transition who loves to look opposite for a bounce pass. She has excellent control over the placement of her passes and fits them into such tight spots. She shot it well from the perimeter where she is very capable of shooting it from deep off the dribble.  Mya uses her floater a lot when she gets into the lane to finish over taller defenders. She connects with many of her floaters and has a soft touch. She also showed the ability to be a floor leader and knows where to get the ball at the right time. Overall she had a good weekend and caught a few college coaches’ attention.

6'2" 2021 Post Allana Micheaux 1 Nation
A solid post player who has the size and strength. Allana did an outstanding job of cleaning up a high percentage of the defensive and offensive rebounds. She continues to improve on posting up wider and lower. With one or two go-to moves on offense, she could be a terrific player in the years to come.

5'8" 2019 PG Moria Joiner Michigan Storm Elite
She is a very active defender, who flourishes in the Michigan Storm up-tempo defense. Moria has a good looking form from the mid-range area in which she hit the game-winner in the championship game over a very talented Sports City U. Joiner is not afraid to attack the basket no matter who is standing in her way. She is an excellent floor leader who already has a good feel for when she should push the tempo or slow it down to run a set.

5'10" 2020 SG Alliyah Nye Michigan Storm Elite
Nye is a long, athletic kid that stood out right away. She moves quickly for her length and size that allows her to defend multiple positions. She runs the court efficiently and knows how to fill the lanes in transition to make herself available to score from behind the arc or finishing at the basket. Nye is a huge rebounder and has a very high upside.

5'8" 2019 SG Mallory McCartney Michigan Mystics Dream Team
Mallory flat out makes shots, and that’s what she’s going to give you. She has a scorer’s mentality, and she’s always looking to get that jumper off. She has deep range, confidence, and a solid stroke out past the three-point line.  Smart player who loves the game and wants the big shot. We always say there is a place on a team for a shooter, well if you need a shooter, McCartney is one that should get some heavy looks.

5'10" 2020 SF Mikaela Griggs-Ziegler 1 Nation
Versatile and fundamentally sound, Griggs-Ziegler had a solid showing in Louisville. She has a muscular, solid build that she used to show off some impressive post moves against smaller players. She also has a good shot that she was able to knock down when left open. On defense, she is aggressive and tough. Mikaela was very vocal on team defense and was able to defend multiple positions; never shying away from a challenge. (Verbally Committed to Michigan)

6' 2019 SF Eden Johnson Michigan's Finest
Johnson is an athletic post that plays with a good motor and rebounds, block shots and does all of her scoring damage inside the paint. She excelled in transition by running the floor and getting easy dump offs from her guards. She had a couple of aggressive face-up moves that showed that she could put the ball on the floor. Not a big name on the travel circuit, but this kid is going to be a steal for some Division 1 program.
