LBI Recap: Season Tip Off Classic Part 1

LBI and GetMeRecruited partnered to put on the Season Tip Off Classic in Charlotte. The event was loaded with talented players and competitive teams in all age divisions. The teams had an opportunity to test themselves and prepare for the upcoming live period April 20-22. LBI staff writer Oscar Brooks gave his take on some of the talented players that were in attendance.

Mariah Davenport-#2-2020 Carolina All-Stars
Super quick lead guard…plays hard baseline to baseline on offense and defense…Excellent ball handler with good court awareness. Has all the tools to be a impact player at the next level.

Jelashia Howard-#34 2019 SC Future
Aggressive, especially on offensive end…Attacks basket at every opportunity and able to finish after contact.

Maya Johnson-#5- 2018 RNS Sports NC
Solid ball handler…active defensively…finishes strong in transition.

Kai’Aishah Mitchell-#0- 2019 RNS Sports NC
Quick lead guard who appeared more comfortable facilitating rather than looking to score…solid perimeter defender.

Aijah Perry-#10 – 2018 RNS Sports NC
Very active defensively…displayed agility and active hands when applying pressure…slasher on offense who excels at taking defenders off the bounce.

Taren Dubose-#4- 2020 Big Shots Elite SC 17u
Hardnosed tweener…high motor on both ends of floor…deceptively strong athlete who knows how to get to the rim and draw contact.

Megan Harkey-#32- 2020 Carolina Dynasty-
6’6” physical presence inside…alters shots with her size and above average footwork down low….with increased strength and aggression could blossom in to an impact player at the college level….displayed good court awareness and soft touch from 12 feet and in despite limit touches…could be a steal for the right program.

Micah Bess-#23- 2020 SC 76ers Silver
Was in attack mode 100% of the time…Intensity level and college ready physique make her a solid prospect at combo guard…good ball handler with a penchant for always being in the right place at the right time.

Dane Bertolina-#1- 2020 Phoenix Busby
Sharpshooter…Not afraid to take (and make) big shots at crucial points in the game…Super quick shot release; doesn’t need a lot of space to pull the trigger…Solid ball handling skills …deceptively solid athleticism on display game after game.

Jermany Mapp-#15- 2020 Phoenix Busby
Very offensive minded with an array of moves in her arsenal…spin moves, step-backs and cross-overs are part of a wide ranging tool kit…Long, rangy athlete with above average quickness… Could be a standout at the next level as her consistency improves.

Jada Ussery-#0- 2021 Carolina Lady Phenoms
Tenacious defender who isn’t afraid to mix it up on the offensive end…Mid- range shooter who is confident pounding the rock.

Chloe James-#5- 2021 Lady Team CLT
Exceptional quickness…gets to the rim with ease and showed the ability to finish in traffic.

Shakira Baskerville-#23- 2021 Lady Team CLT
Very active on the glass especially on the offensive end…good jump shooter who finishes with flourish in traffic.

Sarah Nelson-#14- 2020 Carolina Lady Phenoms
Strong ball handler who controls tempo well from the point…A solid outside shooter but her strong suit was pin-point passing to set up easy scores.

Alexis Bynum-#12- 2021 LadyTeam CLT
Speedster who consistently made solid decisions on both ends of the floor… High basketball IQ.

Carleigh Perry-#8- 2021 Carolina Lady Phenoms
Always hustling on both ends of the floor… Does all the little things, (screening, cutting, moving without the ball), that facilitate the team concept.

Ari’Yana Hayes-#15- 2021 Big Shots Elite 17u SC
Extremely long and athletic….decent shooting form and face-up game…blocked and altered her share of shots…needs to get stronger to be able to handle the rigors at the next level….One to watch.

Maliyah Lockett-#11- 2019 SC Futures 17u
Team plays at breakneck speed and she is one of the ring leaders…Good size and athleticism…A slashing combo guard that showed the ability to play inside and on the perimeter.


Elizabeth Simon-#4- 2023 Charlotte Lady Royals Elite
Handles well with both hands…crafty dribbler…Not bashful about mixing it up inside…Runs floor well in transition.

Amari Bonner-#35- 2023 SC 76ers Prospects
Very active…comfortable with both hands…goes hard to the cup…good hoop instincts for her age.

Hanna Davenport-#22- 2024 SC 76ers Prospects
Solid ball-handler…active feet and solid fundamentally…legitimate jump shooter.

Samira Khalil-#32- 2024 SC 76ers Prospects
Lean guard/wing…Outstanding spot up shooter with lots of range from both wings…Also spent time running the point… One of the best of a strong young crop of 76ers.

Peris Smith-#41- 2023 SC 76ers Prospects
Physical tools are present just needs time…Defense is ahead of her offense right now but could be an impact player on both ends of the floor in the very near future…Athletic & aggressive player who will show rapid improvement as her confidence grows.

Lillian Anderson-#2- 2021 Team Phoenix Busby
Pure banger…Runs floor exceptionally well for a post player…A vocal leader on the floor…Good weak-side defender and positional rebounder…High hoop IQ…Showed some solid offensive post moves and a solid understanding of low post play.

Brielle McCarthy-#3- 2020 SC 76ers Silver
Super quick floor general…excels in transition at making good decisions…True pass first point guard…Solid on-ball defender.

Alaina McPherson-#12- 2020 Team Phoenix Busby
Post player who gets up and down the floor well…Limited offensively but her defense and rebounding are exceptional…Active in paint on both ends….showed some raw ability that could enhance her recruiting profile if she is willing to put in the time.

Brittany Williams-#24- 2020 SC Future
Hard nosed player…Loves to mix it up down low…Plays much bigger than her size…Versatile combo player who is strong enough to excel inside but agile enough to guard ball handlers on the perimeter.

Mahogany Matthews #33- 2018 Hoop Dreams Athletics
Active post/wing who finishes well around the rim…Can extend out comfortably to 15 ft. offensively…huge upside.

Jada Claude-#0- 2019  Hoop Dreams Athletics
Always around the ball defensively…loves to take the lead in transition game, push tempo and attack the rim. Nice shooting form and offensive footwork. Legitimate college prospect.

Aanyla Jackson-#7- 2021 Royal Knights
Quicksilver guard…Ball-handling wizardry and exceptional court awareness helped her avoid a lot of bad situations. Worth another look to see her shoot the ball more often but she could be a small college prospect on her ball handling and defensive tenacity alone.

McKenzie Gadson-#11- 2019 1Dream 17u
Strong with the ball…Strives in transition…Played primarily in the post but was just as effective when called upon to slide out to the wing…Exceptional leaper who is a solid finisher in the paint.
