Pittsburgh, PA: The WPA Bruins Spring Tip-Off Classic was held this past weekend. Power clubs such as, All-Ohio Black GEYBL, Team Takeover GEYBL (MD), Sports City U (OH), WPA Bruins (PA), 1 Nation Elite (MI), Cincinnati Angels (OH) and many more came to battle it out in Pittsburgh to see who “Queen of Court!” was This is definitely one of the best non-certified events in the country. The action was non-stop from start to finish, and there were some outstanding performances. Here’s a quick look at a few players that stood out in the Steel City.

WPA Bruins Tip-Off Classic Prime Time Performers:

2020 Madeline Westbeld 6'2" SF  Cincy Angels (OH)
Westbeld has very good footwork in the paint. She knows how to find the open spots in the defense to score. Although most of her points came from around the basket, she did show that she can shoot the midrange and three-point shot. Madeline always seemed to be in the right spot at the right time which allowed her to dominate the boards. She moves extremely well without the ball and can finish with both hands while taking the contact from the defense.

2020 Angel Reese 6'2" SF Team Takeover EYBL (MD)
I saw Reese play twice this past weekend and I was extremely impressed both times. Reese displayed a deep passion and commitment to defend whether it was in the half court or on the ball in the Takeover full-court diamond press. Her strong and athletic body allowed her to dominate anyone with whom her coach matched her.  Offensively she showed her ability to slash, finish in the lane and she controlled the offensive boards.  What’s most impressive about her is her unselfish play. When her teammates did something great, she was always the first to celebrate.

2020 Tess Meyers 5'9" SG WPA Bruins (PA)
Meyers will be one to watch over the next few years. She went on a scoring rampage in several games. Tess showed off her sweet shooting touch as she made deep jumpers and knocked down several shots off the dribble. She also made some excellent decisions when leading the break that made her even more difficult to stop this weekend.

2020 Taziah Jenks 6'2" SF WV Thunder (WV)
One of the better overall players at the tournament had on a WV Thunder uniform. From the opening tip, Zenks showed hints that she came ready to play. Head Coach Scott Johnson did an outstanding job in letting Taziah demonstrate her ability to dribble, pass, move without the ball, and shoot it from the perimeter. Body control is not an issue for her, as she showed that she could change direction at the drop of a dime to avoid the charge while driving to the basket.

2019 Jordan Horston 6'1" PG All Ohio Black EYBL (OH)
I was not going to write about any 2019 kids at this event because many college coaches and fans know about the top kids. But I am going to make an exception this time, because after what I saw this kid do she deserves it. In a highly anticipated matchup against Sports City U (OH), Horston was easily the best player on the floor. She did whatever she wanted on the court when she had the ball in her hands; she pushed it in transition, finished at the rim or was kicking out to teammates for scoring opportunities.  Hortson had 23 of her game-high 35 points in the first half. She’s going to make some college coach happy when she steps on campus because she is a program changer.

2020 Maya Bokunewicz 6’1” PG CPA Dynamite (PA)
Bokunewicz was very impressive this weekend. She has a strong body and has excellent ball control. While running the offense for the very talented CPA Dynamite team, she always kept a level head and displayed her ability to see the floor getting her teammates involved. Maya has a sweet shot from 3 point range and is also able to penetrate and create whenever the team needs it.

Team Takeover EYBL Takes Home the WPA Bruins Elite Division Championship
Team Takeover EYBL 17U team came to the Steel City to make a statement, and they left letting everyone know that they are for real. Head Coach Ronald James has plenty of length and athleticism on the wing in 2019 Penn State commit Jayla James, and 2020 players Angel Reese, and Madison Scott. The backcourt of 2019 Jakia Brown-Turner and 2020 Mir McLean can play with the best of them. This team can defend 94 feet, rebound on both ends, and knows how to execute when they need to. Team Takeover EYBL pulled out a hard-fought victory over the Cincy Angels in the semi-finals and then steamrolled past All Ohio Black EYBL in the championship game.
