The Mid-Michigan Mega Scrimmage Was Once Again A Huge Success

The Mid-Michigan Mega Scrimmage held at H.H. Dow High School was once again a huge success

Midland, MI: The Mid-Michigan Mega Scrimmage held at H.H. Dow High School was once again a huge success. Teams from Mid, Southeast, and Midwest Michigan filled the gym and put on a show for fans, parents and college coaches. For 10 hours, teams went to war on the court, preparing for the first week of action. For a few of the teams this was our second time seeing them during the pre-season scrimmages and we could tell right away that they have been in the gym working.

Top Players

Alexis Miller  2018  5’6”  PG  Howell High School
Miller is a true point guard, able to hurt opponents in multiple ways. She is a strong leader, a solid defender and a great passer. Her most deadly weapon is her long range shot, which she is able to hit off the bounce or with her feet set.

Victoria Wright  2017  5’8”  Guard  Detroit Renaissance
Victoria showed that she is able to get to the hoop and knock down threes. She is a vocal presence for her team and knows when she needs to take over a game.

Maddie Barrie  2018  5’10”  Wing/Post  Midland High School
A solid frame with the ability to play inside and out, Maddie showed why she’s been getting so much interest from schools at the next level. She is a solid rebounder and can defend multiple positions. She also displayed superb post moves with her back to the basket and her jump shot abilities.

Natalie Kaunse  2019  5’8”  Wing  Clare High School
Kaunse plays the wing but handles the ball and sees the court well enough to be effective at the guard position. She shoots with confidence and plays hard on both ends of the floor.

Autumn Kissman  2017  6’3”  Post  Mason High School
Autumn was a stand-out force in the paint all day. She finished at the rim with contact, altered shots in and out of her area and dominated the boards on both ends. (Oakland University)

Amanda Ward  2019  5’6”  Guard  Saginaw Arthur Hill
Athletic, quick and resilient, Ward was all over the place in a good way. She slipped past opponents for rebounds and second chance points, she ran the court hard in transition, and found a way to the paint off the dribble for easy points.

Shakara Johnson  6’1”  2017  Post  Flint Carman-Ainsworth
Johnson is a huge piece in the Cavaliers offense and defense. She shows vocal leadership, fought for rebounds, blocked multiple shots and didn’t hesitate to get on the floor to go after loose balls. When she wasn’t in the game it showed.

Jeanae Terry  2019  5’7”  Guard  Wayne Memorial
Terry put on a show in every match up her team had. She has crafty ball handles and can play the point if needed. She’s very athletic and usually could get past opponents without a problem. The scariest thing about Terry is she still hasn’t reached her full potential as a player.

Jasmine Clerkley  2020  5’11”  Post  Okemos High School
A strong kid that plays with a lot of heart and no fear, Clerkley knows how to battle and how to get the job done. The young freshman did not shy away from contact and finished strong at the rim in transition, when posting up and grabbing second chance shots.

Monae Palmer  2017  5’8”  Wing  Dearborn Heights Robichaud
Palmer does a little bit of everything for her Bulldog squad. She is a very versatile player, able to drive hard to the hoop and hit the twelve foot jumper. She can guard multiple positions and rebounds.

Top Teams

Okemos (Class A)
Led by Division I prospects Hartman (2019) and Clerkley (2020), the chiefs are a solid team. Hartman and Clerkley give them a nice inside/outside game that becomes hard to defend. They also have a few shooters that forces the defense to spread the floor. Look for them to stir things up in a major way, especially during conference play.

Dearborn Heights Robichaud (Class B)
The Bulldogs are very athletic with players that can play multiple positions. Led by their senior backcourt duo of Brown and McDaniel, Robichaud forces you to pick your poison when defending them. If they can get consistent leadership and production from their big three (Brown, McDaniel and Palmer), the Bulldogs are sure to dominate their conference for the third year in a row and make a nice run in the state tournament.

Midland (Class A)
The Chemics had a great showing at the scrimmage, executing on offense and communicating well on defense. They are a blue collar team, working hard every possession and finding a way to get the job done. Their multiple battles against cross town rival Midland Dow should be very interesting this season.

Wayne Memorial (Class A)
Despite having some key players on the injured list, the Zebras found a way to handle business. Athletic, disciplined and energetic, this group plays together and knows their roles. Wayne is loaded with next level talent in multiple positions. They are definitely going to cause some trouble wherever they go this season.

Sandusky (Class C)
The chemistry that this Sandusky team has is something you don’t see too often. They feed off each other on both ends of the floor and no one is bigger than the team as a whole. They move the ball and are patient on offense. They were phenomenal at filling the gaps and talking on defense. If they are not one of your favorites to make it to the Breslin in Class C competition, they should be.

Watch List

Howell (Class A)
Howell is a feisty, tenacious team that did not back down from anyone. They have a solid back court that are great defenders and great shooters. They move the ball well on offense and take the best shot they have, not necessarily the first shot. The Highlanders should not be taken lightly and are surely to have some upsets this season.

Saginaw Arthur Hill (Class A)
The Lumberjacks are quick, athletic and willing to do whatever it takes to win. Coach Alton Sanders has done a good job of changing the culture and attitude of the program and it shows. These girls play hard and feel that they can compete with anyone. They encourage each other, defend, and knocked down some big shots. Don’t be surprised if Arthur Hill is a serious threat in the Saginaw Valley North conference.
