Many Of The States Best Will Invade East Kentwood High School On Friday

Many Of The States Best Will Invade East Kentwood High School On Friday

Varsity 1 - Game Times 10:00a, 10:50a, 12:30p

Muskegon (Class A)
Everyone knew that Mardrieka Cook was the glue that held this team together, but Coach Walker knows that the cupboard is not bare in Muskegon. The Big Reds are now led by 2017 5’9” Tierra Williams. She leads the team by example with her energy and nose for the ball. The Big Reds are loaded with athletes to help make a run at the OK-Black championship.

Kent City (Class C)
Coach Scott Carlson has turned the eagles into a powerhouse over the past 8 years. This year’s team should not disappoint. Led by Saginaw Valley State University commit Kaitlyn Geers, this team has three-point depth, which should allow Carson’s system to be plugged right in and successful.

Battle Creek Pennfield (Class B)
Dan Thornton has brought his trap and run style to Pennfield and this year he will have junior guards Claire LeRoue and Naomi Davis to lead the way. Expect for Pennfield to make some noise come tourney time in march.

Key Games: Battle Creek Pennfield vs. Kent City, Catholic Central vs. Kalamzoo Loy Norrix, West Ottawa vs. Godwin Heights

Varsity 2 - Game Times 11:40a, 1:20p, 3:00p

Rockford (Class A)
The Rams will be looking to contend for the OK-Red championship this season. They are led by 2017 5'10” Central Michigan commit Maddy Watters. The Rams will also be expecting a big push out of 6’1” post Zoe Anderson. This Rockford team has a shooter in Kayla Wildman, which will be helpful in to stretching out the defense.

Detroit Edison (Class C)
Edison’s 2019 6’3” Rickea Jackson is arguably the top player in the state regardless of class. Jackson’s talent level along with her young gritty guards that she will have on display for the next couple of seasons has Coach Monique Brown smiling from ear to ear. Detroit Edison has a challenging schedule this year to prepare them for their expected run to the Breslin center.

East Kentwood (Class A)
When Coach Jimmy Carter took over the program he had a team that was 21-2. However he now feels his present team may be the most talented team he has had at Kentwood. The Falcons are led by 4 year varsity point guard Amare’ Brown. The Falcons have Division I level talent in Lauzarea Sanders, Alona Blackwell, and Mauriya Barnes. Seniors Anaya Powell and Audraya Johnson both bring athleticism and experienced for a deep Falcon lineup.

Key Games: East Kentwood vs. Detroit Edison, Hamilton vs. Lansing Waverly, Reeths Puffer vs. Ann Arbor Pioneer.

Varsity 3- 2:10p, 3:50p, 4:40p

Grand Rapids Christian (Class A)
The Eagles brought Coach Charlotte Muller out of retirement to coach a unit that will still have talent returning from the team that won the District Title. Amongst those returning are 6’0” 2018 Edecia Beck who will lead the way playing multiple positions and the coach’s daughter Sidney Muller who is very heady and a solid 3-year varsity starter. The X factor will be can the Eagles get what they need from 6’0” Senior Leah Singleton.

Otsego (Class B)
Coach Kosar ran into a buzz saw in Marshall last year in the Regional Finals. This year the bulldogs return a lot of key players, and juniors Jaycie Calloway and Mattie Rayman will be asked to get them back to where they ended. The Bulldogs are favored to win in the Wolverine East Conference.

Livonia Churchill (Class A)
Churchill is in some rebuilding stages, however Coach Morris has a Division I center in 6’3” Annie Yost that can hopefully get the program going in the right direction. Yost’s little sister Mary-Claire stands at 6’0” and should help her sister keep the interior in check. Morris will need some strong guard play for the Chargers to be successful this season.

Key Games: Wyoming vs Livonia Churchill, Grand Haven vs. Kalamazoo Central, Otsego vs. Traverse City Central.
