Many Young Players Stood Out At The ATL Summer Slam

Marietta, GA- The second half of our summer travel season kicked off this weekend in Marietta, Georgia. John McGraw of Insider Exposure Basketball was host to the ATL Summer Slam at Suwanee Cobb Sports Complex. There were many awesome games with phenomenal players and here are just a few of them that caught the eye of Lady Ballers Insider.

Treasure Thompson  6’2” 2020 Post Bolingbrook Panthers (IL)
Thompson is a good help-side defender whose length allowed her to block and alter several shots. Although she needs to get a bit more comfortable with her offense on the low block, from what I saw she has the potential to really grow and become a good player down the road. However, Treasure did make me some nice moves in the open floor with the ball her in hands.

Ariel McElroy  5’7”  2019  Point Guard  Bolingbrook Panthers (IL)
Ariel made 7 threes in the 2 games I saw this kid play. She has a tight handle & good change of direction of speed.  She likes to push the ball in transition and is poised when her defender tries to apply pressure. She is good coming off the pick & roll where she can make the pull-up jumper.

Darrione Rogers  5’10”  2020  Guard  Bolingbrook Panthers (IL)
Rogers is creative off the bounce with a nice build and more effective as the two guard. She draws a lot of fouls with her ability to attack the basket where she doesn’t shy away from contact. Darrione made a couple of perimeter shots, but I would like to see her shoot the ball with more confidence.

Kiara Wilson  5’9”  2019  Guard  Tennessee Fury (TN)
Wilson has good size and she uses it to her advantage. Athleticism doesn’t come natural for her but she can get off the floor quick and that helps her on both sides of the glass. She has the ability to shoot from mid-range, three-point range and she can makes baskets inside while fighting through contact.

Mahogany Vaught  5’7”  2019  Point Guard  Team Slink Pink (TN)
A skilled guard who can impact the game on both ends, Mahogany is quick and crafty enough to pick the pockets of the opposing guards. Sometimes she gets a little too greedy and gets caught reaching, but that’s the risk you take when you play strong defense. She is a smooth player with the ball in her hands and makes great decisions.

Kynadi Kuykendoll  5’7”  2019  Point Guard  Team Slink Pink (TN)
Kuykendoll was impressive on the defensive end of the court. She did a great job of playing the passing lanes and playing on the ball defense. She finished at the other end when she was able to get steals that she earned; after which she always got right back down the court to play more defense. She moves well without the ball and can knock down the open three.

Ariel Young  6’0”  2018  Guard  NFL Elite Gold (FL)
Young is a skilled and smooth guard. She made a number of big time moves that she made look effortless and easy. I wish she would have seen her be a little more assertive throughout the game. Ariel did however handle opponents’ pressure and kept her teammates involved; finding the open man at the correct time.

Aijha Blackwell  6’0”  2019  Guard  Team St. Louis Red (MO)
Blackwell does a little of everything on the court. She blocked shots, handled the ball in transition, hit threes, rebounded, made no look passes and scored in multiple ways. With her combination of size, frame, quickness and skill set, she can play almost every position on the court depending on what her team needs.

Yatria Coleman  5’8”  2018  Guard  Memphis Lady Mambas (TN)
Yatria showed that she can shoot from three point range efficiently. In zones she was vital because she forced their opponents to space the floor and extend more than normal. She can run point from time to time but it seems she is more comfortable playing shooting guard.

Akunna Konkwo  6’3”  2019  Post  PSPA Rams (VA)
Konkwo is a tough physical kid that likes to bang on the blocks. She was solid around the basket as she scored using powerful drop steps and she sealed her defender to get good low position on the low block. She also rebounded well when it was in her area where she threw some very good outlet passes that led to easy transition points.
