Wells is probably one of the Top 3 on the ball defenders in the state of Michigan.
The state of Michigan 2017 class has been dominated by the names of Destiny Pitts, Deja Church, Kierra Fletcher and several other standout players. Here’s a look at a few players in the 2017 class that we would like to classify as “Sleepers”. If you’re not paying attention, you could miss them having a breakout July period and earn themselves a college scholarship offer.
Kiarah Copeland 5'7” Guard West Michigan Drive
Copeland is a student of the game with the ability to run a team and get other players involved. She has really been knocking down the 3 ball as of lately along with being crafty in the lane and finishing over bigger opponents. Look for Kiarah at the following tournaments:
July 5th-8th USJN Premier Invitational (Cincinnati, OH)
July 9th-10th USJN Indy 100 (Indianapolis, IN)
July 23-25th PSB Summer Invite (Atlanta, GA)
July 26th PSB Power 48 (Atlanta, GA)
July 27th-29th Blue Star Nationals (Augusta, GA)
Amari Brown 5'9” Guard Grand Rapids Sparks
Many people have not heard of this kid, but she should be on more coaches’ radar. Amare is an athletic guard that can really defend and get to the basket. She has a knack for making tough finishes when she drives. A streaky shooter with a nice consistent jump shot and when she is on, Brown is very tough to defend. Amare will be on the road at the following tournaments:
July 6th-8th Run for the Roses (Lexington, KY)
July 9th-10th USJN Indy 100 (Indianapolis, IN)
July 23rd-24th Classic in the North (Mt. Pleasant, MI)
July 27th-28th USJN Summer Finale (Toledo, OH)
Monae Palmer 5’9” Guard Michigan Sting
The tools are there, as she has nice size and skills. Palmer sometimes get lost in the mix, because she is on high school team with a talented backcourt, however she is a nice one-on-one player who can get hot from the perimeter. Monae is a solid athlete who’s getting better every day. She will be at the following tournaments in July:
July 6th-8th Run for the Roses (Lexington, KY)
July 23rd-24th USJN Summer Showcase (Indianapolis, IN)
Annie Yost 6’3” Post Michigan Crossover EYBL
Yost is a raw talent that is ready to make a name for herself. This will be her first time on the EYBL circuit where I think she will be able to hold her own. A good rebounder who does a great job of looking up the court for outlet passes, Annie is a solid scorer around the basket that makes good decisions. Her debut on the EYBL tour will go as follows:
July 6th-8th Simply the Best (Ames, IA)
July 10th-13th Battle In the Boro (Nashville, TN)
July 22nd-25th USJN National Championship (Washington, DC)
July 27th-29th EYBL Nike Nationals (Augusta, GA)
Rozhane Wells 5’5” Point Guard Michigan Storm Gauntlet (Love)
If you’re looking for a defensive stopper, than look no more. Wells is probably one of the Top 3 on the ball defenders in the state of Michigan. She’s very quick and knows how to force turnovers. Offensively she can get to the basket where she can create for others or finish it on her own. She will be on the road in July at the following tournaments:
July 6th -8th Super 64 National Championship (Frisco, TX)
July10th-12th ADIDAS Uprising Gauntlet Finale (Carrolton, TX)
July23rd-26th Atlanta Summer Slam (Marietta, GA)
July 27th-29th ADIDAS Summer Championship (Emerson, GA)
Courtney McInerney 6’1” Post Michigan Mystics
McInerney has great size and length that she uses to battle on the inside. She is a tough kid that doesn't mind contact offensively or defensively. She is very strong on the block, but also can knock down a jump shot from the elbow. She finishes well around the rim with contact and is a high percentage free throw shooter. Catch Courtney at the following tournaments in July:
July 6th-8th Simply the Best (Ames, IA)
July 10th-12th Nike Tournament of Champions (Chicago, IL)
