LBI State Tournament Preview

Top Michigan Regional Semifinals Games

There were a few surprises in last week's District games along with expected outcomes. The District outcomes set-up some great Regional Semifinals games that will take place Tuesday night.  There are also some new faces in this year’s Regionals that will be looking to keep their season alive this week. Here is a brief sneak peek at a couple of this week’s match-ups.

Class A

Muskegon Mona Shores vs Grand Rapids Christian 8pm @ Hudsonville HS

This will be the marquee game in the state of Michigan on Tuesday night due to the amount of talent that will be on the court. Mona Shores is coming off some tough district games last week by beating Muskegon and Muskegon Reeths – Puffer. Grand Rapids Christian may have 6 losses on the year, but don’t let their record fool you. The Eagles are coming into this game on a 11 game winning streak due to the strong play of transfers in senior guard Mariah McCully and one of the best sophomores in the state in 5’10”Edecia Beck. The Sailors backcourt duo of Jordan Walker and Alyza Winston has the firepower to matchup with the Eagles. This should be a very good offensive game which could come down to which backcourt duo has the ball in their hands in the final seconds.

Key Matchup: Jordan Walker vs. Mariah McCully

Class B

Williamston vs Grand Rapids South Christian 5:30pm @ Wayland Union HS

This could have easily been a Final 4 matchup, but sometimes in life we don’t get what we ask for. These two teams will battle it out on Tuesday night with the winner being in the driver’s seat to advance to the Quarterfinals. South Christian is led by 5’7” senior point guard Jen DeBeor who is coming off a 31 point performance and is very capable of putting her team on her shoulders and having another huge night. Williamston backcourt of senior Renee Sturm and sophomore Maddie Watters will be tough for the Sailors to contain in their 1-2-2 defense. They’re both very good shooters from beyond the three-point line that can make South Christian pay if they don’t locate them early. The key in this game could come down to Williamston’s 6’1” sophomore post Allison Peplowski, who has the potential to really dominate in the paint on both ends of the floor.
