So far this season, the Rochester Adams Highlanders have had no luck in division play.  They lost all 5 games in their division this season and came into tonight’s game with a record of 4-9.  Tonight however, as they took on the Clarkston Wolves, you couldn't tell.

It always helps to start a game off on the right foot and the Highlanders did just that.  They open the game with a 9-2 run early in the first then finished the quarter on a 6-0 run, capped off by a triple from Junior Ryian Owussu.  That would give Adams an 11 point lead as they headed into the second quarter.

The Wolves came right back and put together an 8-0 run from the break thanks to a couple triples by Kelsey Hunt as well as a great layup by Kayla Lukenbach off a fast break.  Unfortunately it was all in an effort to play catchup as Clarkston still trailed by 5 at the half.

Adams came out in the third quarter getting a lot of long 2 pointers.  One of those being a basket and a foul for Junior Maggie Rogers who lead the Highlanders with 22 points on the night, she would finish the "and one".  Clarkston would try to keep it close with a few nice layups by Kayla Russell and Alyssa Bey but Adams was still able to expand their lead to 7.

It would be all Highlanders from there in the 4th.  After a 7-0 run by Adams, Clarkston tried to plat the fouling game to close the gap but it would back fire on them.  Adams would pull away thanks to great shooting at the line as they get their first win in division play this year 66-51.

Adams improves to a 5-9 record, 1-5 in division play, while Clarkston falls to 12-3, 5-3 in division play.

Leading scorers for the night: Rochester Adams: Maggie Rogers 22, Taylor Smith 12, Hannah Simard 10.  Clarkston: Madison Beck 13, Kelsey Hunt 11, Kayla Russell 9.

Game and Team Highlights

Rochester Adams:

  • Junior Hannah Simard showed great speed in the first half. She got a lot of steals and flew down the court the other way but only put a couple points in the book to show for it.
  • Adams was very aggressive and almost got caught up in foul trouble. They had 9 team fouls in the first half and 11 in the second half.

Clarkston:

  • Kayla Russell was showing just how well she can play both sides of the ball in this game.  Not only did she have 9 points on the night but she had a monster block on what looked like an easy fast break layup for Hannah Simard.
  • Clarkston also did well to keep things close early in the 4th quarter by shutting out the Highlanders offense for 4 minutes; unfortunately it would not hold up.
