A long time city rivalry was played for the last time in front of a packed house at Southfield High. Both teams came out pumped up to get the win of the last and final face off. Southfield Lathrup will close at the end of this school year and merge with Southfield High to become the “Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology Warriors”. Emotions controlled the low scoring 1st quarter causing multiple missed shots and turnovers. In the 2nd quarter both teams settled in and started to run their offense and score; although it came easier for Lathrup who often scored in transition. Going into the half, Lathrup was up 22-15 and would go on to stretch the lead in the 2nd half by creating turnovers and scoring easy buckets from fast breaks. For the rest of the game the Chargers would dominate and control the game until the final buzzer. Lathrup walks away with the final win and with eternal bragging rights.
Leading the way for the Chargers was Deja Church with 14 points followed by her teammate Antionette Miller with 11 points. Shawna Manning had a team high 9 points for the Blue Jays.
