Tuesday night, Coach Jason Wilkins and his Robichaud Lady Bulldogs were looking to keep their perfect conference season alive against the Edsel Ford Thunderbirds.  The last time Robichaud played Edsel Ford, the Lady Bulldogs got the win at the buzzer, but what a difference a month makes.  Despite an even start for both teams, towards the end of the first quarter, Robichaud began to explode on offense.  After a pair of layups by Jerlisa Powell-Tate and Nicole Buffington, the Lady Bulldogs would end the quarter on a 10-2 run.  From that point on, Robichaud would just continue to pour on the points; lead by junior Kayla Brown who had 14 points in the first half and ended the night with 31 points.  Among those were a couple big triples from the corner, the first which put her team on an 11-2 run, heading into halftime leading 33-13.

Although Edsel Ford would keep pace in third quarter, only getting outscored by a basket, they just could not stop the offensive onslaught by Brown and Monae Palmer, who had 17 points, most of those in the second half.  Robichaud remains perfect in conference play winning 65-30, and they are now 6-0 in conference, 7-4 overall and the Thunderbirds fall to 2-5 in conference play, 5-7 overall.

Leading scorers for the night: Robichaud: Kayla Brown 31, Monae Palmer 17, Jerlisa Powell 7, Nicole Buffington 7; Edsel Ford: Cassie O’Brein 6, Jaida Futch 6, Katelyn Sadowski 4

Game and Team Highlights

Robichaud:

  • The Lady Bulldogs did a great with rebounding as they were boxing out and circling the net all night.

  • Robichaud proved to be a force on defense as well with several big scoring runs as well as holding Edsel Ford to 4 points in the second quarter.

Edsel Ford:

  • Edsel Ford may not have been able to keep up with Robichaud but they never quit; despite being down 20 coming out of the half, they still put up points until the very end of the game.

  • The Thunderbirds also did pretty well with 3 point shooting, led by Cassie O’Brein and Jaida Futch.
