With starter Breanna Perry out with an injury, the Raiders would be down a starter and key contributor to their team, but they still came ready to play. The first quarter of the game was controlled by the Raiders who would end on an 8-1 run. The Phoenix would not stay quiet for long and would go on an 8 point run of their own, led by Penn State commit Siyeh Frazier. Both teams went into halftime tied at 20-20. After halftime, Flushing would take over the tempo of the game and win the third quarter. The Phoenix would struggle to score and provide Frazier with some help. This opened the door for Flushing and they would hold on to win.

Leading the way for the Raiders was Claire Glowniak with 18 points and Lauren Newman with 15 points. Frazier led all scorers with a game high 21 points.

Game and Team Highlights

Detroit Renaissance:

  • It is critical that the Phoenix learn how to finish games. They started out great but came out of the break without their fire and it hurt them.

  • Someone on the Phoenix team has to be committed to helping Frazier on the offensive end. As good as she is, she can’t do it all by herself.

  • Defense intensity started off great. If Renaissance can find a way to play that way the entire game, their offense will come.

Flushing:

  • The Raiders need to trust themselves and their system. They are a great team and should and their court body language should always say that.

  • Glowniak stepped up big for the Raiders. With Perry sidelined with injury, the Raiders are going to need Claire to show up big every game.

  • Kamryn Chappell was a great floor leader. She kept her team calm during Renaissance’s run and was very vocal the entire game.
