The Gators of Arbor Prep faced off against the Captains of Waterford Kettering in the second match-up of the 2016 MLK Classic. From the start of the game Arbor Prep would turn up the heat, forcing Kettering to play a fast paced game and go on a 17-2 run. Kettering would shake off their jitters and start to apply more pressure to Arbor Prep, holding them to only 5 third quarter points. Despite their efforts, the hole was just too big for the Captains to climb out of and they would fall to Arbor Prep 54-37.
Lauryn Carroll would lead all scorers with 16 points which included 5 three pointers. Sydney Williams was close behind with 13 points for Arbor Prep. Lillia Schoof was leading scorer for Kettering with 12 points.
Game and Team Highlights
Waterford Kettering:
Failing to finish around the basket on several occasions really hurt Kettering. Their defensive efforts often went in vain due to missed layups.
If the Captains want to be true contenders in the state tournament, they will need to start the game intense and focused. They waited too late to turn up the heat.
Ypsilanti Arbor Prep:
The Gators did an awesome job controlling the tempo of the game from the opening tip.
Once again the third quarter was a problem for Arbor Prep. This will be very detrimental to them come tournament time. They have to find a way to keep their intensity high after halftime.
Lauryn Carroll was great for the Gators today. She shot well from long range and played solid defense. As the Gators struggled the second half, her shots allowed them to maintain a comfortable lead.
