These two teams almost gave the entire gym a heart attack. From the opening tip they would trade baskets, make great plays and play superb defense. Although Solon bad a very small lead at halftime, they knew that this game was far from over. In the second half, there were at least five lead changes that led to the game being tied midway through the fourth quarter. After some clutch free throws from both squads and some made crucial shots, Solon led by 1. With 12 seconds left on the clock, Kaela Webb would hit a layup to give the Yellow Jackets a 49-48 lead. Solon would get one last chance to win, but a shot by Jordin Joseph as the clock expired would fall short and give Country Day the win.
Kaela Webb finished the game with 13 points and the MVP trophy. For Solon, Alexis Stover had a game high 17 points and teammate Dee Bekelja had 16 points.
Game and Team Highlights
Detroit Country Day:
Country Day played great defense against Solon. They weren’t always perfect, but they were always present.
The Yellow Jackets showed a lot of heart by playing hard until the end. That mind set is what pushed them to the victory line.
DCDS really needs to involve their post players more. They have the talent in the post, they need to now use it.
Solon:
This is a very talented team. Although they went 0-2 in Roundball play, it takes nothing away from their talent.
Solon would be unstoppable if they went to the hoop more. Sometimes they bail their opponents outs by shooting too many jump shots.
