Williamston came into this game off a lost to Mona Shores and played with a chip on the shoulder. They took all their frustrations out on the Cavaliers. The Hornets moved the ball well, played tough defense and got the ball up the court at a high speed in transition. Carmen-Ainsworth finally got some breathing room but it was too little to late. Williamston heads home 1-1 in Roundball play.
Sophomore Maddie Watters received MVP honors with a game high 22 points. Her teammate Allison Peplowski finished with 11. Carmen-Ainsworth’s leading scorer was sharp shooter Destiny Strother with 14 points, which included 4 three pointers.
Game and Team Highlights
Williamston:
Williamston showed a great example of the phrase “bouncing back”. They didn’t dwell on their recent defeat, but instead allowed it to push them and play hard.
We have said it before but I’ll don’t mind saying it again…Maddie Watters is a heck of a basketball player and one of the purest shooters in the state.
Carmen-Ainsworth:
Even though this was a tough lost, the Cavaliers played until the final horn sounded and never gave up.
Carmen needs to work on getting back on defense quicker. Williamston killed them in transition.
If the Cavaliers see the entire court during transition and when executing plays, they will increase their scoring opportunities. Many times shooters were wide open or the baseline cutter and they went completely unnoticed.
