Ann Arbor Huron came into tonight's match up with an impressive 5-1 record with their only loss coming by a 5 point margin to a talented Southfield Lathrup squad. Huron’s defense is the only thing that kept this game within reach for the River Rats. Catholic had an unblemished record of 5-0 and did not disappoint game watchers. One of the state's favorites to make it to the Breslin in March just continues to find ways to win.

Catholic jumped out to an early 18-8 lead in the first quarter and did not look back. Catholic seemed to have the advantage across the board. They controlled the pace of the game, the boards and knocked down key shots to keep the game out of the reach of Ann Arbor Huron. Huron put up a solid defensive effort but in the end Catholic was just too much for them. The Cougars continue to be very impressive and stack up big wins. They have won the heart of many as the new favorite in their class to win it all.

Sophia Karasinski led all scorers with 13 points. Kyra Bussell chipped in 10 points as the two worked the inside outside game to perfection. Ann Arbor Huron did not have any players score in double figures.

Game and Team Highlights

Ann Arbor Huron:

  • Led by Cheah Rael-Whitsitt and Emily Marsh, the River Rats put up a solid defensive effort in hopes of containing GR Catholics half court offense.

  • Ann Arbor Huron seemed to struggle offensively throughout the game.

Grand Rapids Catholic:

  • Catholic jumped on Huron early and did not let up; the cougars were in control and led the entire game.

  • The guard play of junior standout and Central Michigan commit Sophia Karasinski continues to be impressive.
