Tonight’s match-up between the Huskies and the Eagles pits a young and up and coming squad against the defending OK- White Champs.  Forest Hills Northern held a 1 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter but had a hard time scoring the rest of the way.  GR Christian continues to show improvement defensively making it difficult for FHN to run their offense.  Christian’s length and athleticism was too much for the Huskies, and they dominate the second half of the game; including a 12-0 fourth quarter.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Jocelyn Taylor with 15 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Heaven Jobe with 11 points. Arnetta Abbey contributed 7 points and 4 rebounds.  Forest Hills Northern was led by Alexis Hill with 17 points.

Game Highlights

Forest Hills Northern:

  • Alexis Hill is a super talented guard. She does it all; she defends, handles the ball well, finishes fast break shots, rebounds and blocks shots. She was a difficult assignment for Christian at times.
  • Northern’s youth showed up tonight. This is a team that has only one senior, so the future looks bright for this talented group of young ladies.
  • Northern showed a lot of energy on defense and continued to fight until the buzzer.

Grand Rapids Christian:

  • The Eagles came out a little flat offensively and trailed at the end of the 1st quarter but they did not trail the rest of the game.
  • GR Christian was solid defensively in the second half, holding the Huskies scoreless in the 4th quarter. This energy must come earlier in the game, especially against highly talented teams.
  • Jocelyn Taylor getting a double-double tonight was a huge statement maker. Hopefully for GR Christian she can keep this momentum going.
