A clash of the Class A titans is a great way to describe this game. The River Rats came onto the court with a lot of eagerness and intensity. Midland Dow seemed stunned by the aggressive and hands on style of play from Huron and it took them a minute to get clicking. With a lot of encouragement from Coach Kyle Thiesan, the Chargers started to bite back and the game got physical…in a good way. With 2 minutes left in the game, the score was tied 36-36. After two huge baskets from both sides and some fierce defense, the game went into overtime.  Both teams gave all they had, but the Chargers ran out of steam, and Huron got the victory.

Cheah Rael-Whitsitt and Emily Marsh finished with 13 for Huron. Kaylee Wasco was the leading scorer for the Chargers giving 12 points and 8 rebounds. Alexie Flaminio ended with 8 points.

Game and Team Highlights

Ann Arbor Huron:

  • The River Rats came out playing physical and set the tone for the entire game.

  • Free throw shooting has got to improve. Tonight the River Rats went 6-21 at the stripe. Percentages like that can hurt you in a tight game.

  • If Huron keeps playing smart and strong, they will be a team to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

Midland Dow:

  • The Chargers have to play tougher. Physically and mentally. They beat themselves today.

  • Big players show up in big games. Something for Dow’s leading scorers and key players to keep in mind.

  • Listen to your coach! Sounds simple, but the Chargers allowed their frustration to block out their coach’s voice. It’s hard, but in the mist of adversity, they must learn to look to their leader.
