I can admit when I am wrong, and this is one of those times. Although I picked Bay City John Glenn to win the game, I did think the game would be a lot closer. The first quarter started of what I would call “normal”. BC John Glenn with a slight lead, but the Phoenix playing well and within arm’s reach. However that all changed in the 2nd quarter when John Glenn would go on a 14-0 run and scored a total of 29 points; while also holding Renaissance to only 2. They went into halftime up 44-11. After the halftime break, they opened up the quarter with back to back threes within the first minute and never looked back. The Phoenix did turn up the pressure and was able to hold the Bobcats to 8 points; they weren’t able to turn it on offensively. They also made a nice run the last 2 minutes of the game, but it was too little too late.  In the end, John Glenn went on to win the game and stays undefeated.

Kalle Martinez leads the way for the Bobcats with 22 points. Boensch finishes with 18.  Leading scorer for the Phoenix is Siyeh Frazier with 16 points, 15 coming in the 4th quarter by way of 3 three point shots.

Game and Team Highlights

BC John Glenn:

  • The Bobcats in my opinion are not just the number one team in Class B, but possibly the best team in the state. The perfect state title matchup….Bay City John Glenn vs. Detroit Country Day. Time will tell.

  • JC needs to learn how to control their emotions. Calls or plays not going their way should not warrant mini temper tantrums. Stay calm and keep playing.

  • Although they had a substantial lead, the Bobcats begin to relax and allowed Renaissance to get some momentum. Closing out games strong is something they must do and do well to make it to the Breslin.

Detroit Renaissance:

  • When Frazier isn’t clicking, someone has to be willing to step up and help. One player can never do it all.

  • If the Phoenix wants a shot at the DPSL Championship, they must start the way they want to finish. Large scoring surges can’t happen midway through the fourth quarter.

  • If the post can continue to be aggressive defensively while also staying out of foul trouble, the Phoenix will be a strong competitive team.
