LBI’s Elite 48 Camp: 2017 Recap

Flint, MI – The second annual LBI Elite 48 Camp, held at Hill Road Hoops, kicked off Saturday at 10:30am and was truly a showcase of some very talented Michigan players. 50 Lady Ballers from all over the state hit the court with LBI staff and coaches from multiple arenas to display their skills and overall game. Players from the classes of 2017-2020 were represented at the camp. It is said that starting with the class 0f 2017 and for at least the next 4 years, selecting a Miss Basketball for the state is going to very challenging. After watching these young ladies battle each other, that notion still stands. These classes are loaded in every position, with elite talent in each corner of the state. Some see it as a problem, but for a true lover of basketball, it’s a wonderful problem to have!

Kaylee Wasco   6’2”   Post   Midland Dow HS
Wasco runs the court very well, making herself available to receive the ball in any situation. She uses her long frame to look over either shoulder and get the ball in the hoop. She rebounds well, and is a defensive presence. Defenders beware, if you don’t keep a hand in her face, she can knock down long range shots as well.

Kayla Brown   5’7”   PG   Dearborn Heights Robichaud HS
Brown showed that she is very coachable and able to receive and carry out instructions. She was a strong vocal leader on the court, with and without the ball. Kayla shot very well from short and long range. She often was able to make good moves with the ball to get inside the paint and finish at the rim or stop for the pull-up.

Amanda Sape   6'2"   Post   Bloomfield Hills HS
Amanda has great strength for her age and while she needs to polish her footwork in the paint, she is a physical two-handed rebounder who runs the floor well.  Sape is a good athlete with strong hands who will anchor the paint for Bloomfield Hills as they face strong tests in league competition this season.  She finished well on either side of the basket and looked to post up in games.

Kamryn Chappell   5’5”   PG   Flushing HS
Kamryn is a tough and aggressive point guard that is able to use her toughness on both ends of the court. She did a great job finding the open man, playing hard nose defense and shooting the long range three.

Rozhane Wells   5’5”   Guard    Arbor Preparatory Academy HS
Wells is a solid player that can be productive in either guard position. She runs the court well and isn’t afraid to take a little contact. She is also a solid defender as well.

Kierra Crockett   5’10”   Wing   North Farmington Hills HS
Kierra is a very hard worker who hustles on both ends of the court. She goes after loose balls and gets on the floor for the jump ball. She is able to lead the fast break and finish at the basket.

Lauren Newman   5’8”   Guard   Flushing HS
Newman is fundamentally sound. She did a good job showing this during the skill development sessions during camp. She is a solid shooter and played great help defense.

Lauryn Carroll   5’6”   Guard   Arbor Preparatory Academy HS
Lauryn ran the floor well with and without the ball in her hands. She was able to see the floor and find open teammates. She was effective in both the point guard and off guard position.

Monae Palmer   5’8”   Guard   Dearborn Heights Robichaud HS
Palmer played solid defense in every game situation. She was a player that was able to do a little bit of everything on both ends of the court. She also has a nice shot that she should shoot more often. She wasn’t afraid to battle and had the scratches and bruises to show for it.

Paige Reid   5’8”   Guard   Holly HS
Reid is a guard that fits in and works at being productive with whatever group she is with on the court. She is fundamentally sound and can shoot long range effectively.  She runs the court well and finds the open areas.

Amare Chikwe  6' Wing  Wayne Memorial HS
One of the state’s top up and coming players from a deep 2017 class as she provided versatility in her scoring from the perimeter and her ability to rebound. Chikwe can play multiple positions on the floor, push the ball, and create for herself.  She has length, a good motor, and showed a solid skill yet still developing skill set.
