Three Wings That Will Have A Breakout Year

We all know that in the game of basketball you need a solid point guard to get things rolling on the court offensively and defensively, but you also need a backcourt mate that can simply put the ball in the basket. LBInsider takes a look at 3 wing players that have a chance to do some special things this year on the court.

Lexey Tobel  2017  5’10”  Wing  Hartland HS
Tobel averaged 12 points and 4 rebounds last season and helped lead Hartland to a quarterfinal appearance and she is ready for another deep tournament run. She plays within herself as she can score off the dribble; rebound well on both ends of the floor and is a leader on the court. She has really improved her perimeter shot over the summer which will make her more of a threat. Tobel will get her chance to show what she can do on December 12th, when her Lady Eagles take on a tough defensive minded Class C Top 5 team Arbor Prep, at the Best of Michigan Holiday Classic.

Amare Chikwe  2017  5’11”  Wing  Wayne Memorial
The Ann Arbor Huron transfer will be looked upon to do a lot more on the floor for the Zebras this upcoming season than she has had to do in years past. Chikwe will team up with point guard Cam Clegg to form one of the best 1-2 tandems in the KLAA conference. Amare is a long athletic player that can create her own shot, knock down the three-point shot and can defend several positions on the floor. If she lives up to what we know she can do, look for Wayne to make some serious noise come March.

Edecia Beck  2018  5’11”  Wing  Grand Rapids Christian
Beck is one the best players in the state that few have ever heard of. This is mostly because she played for a Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills squad that did not fare to well last season. Well things are about to change as the multi-dimensional Beck has transferred to Grand Rapids Christian to team up with backcourt mate Mariah McCully. She played point guard last year for Ottawa Hills, but now will be able to play in her natural position.  Beck is an explosive wing that has good ball handling skills which all her to lead the break. She has the ability to finish or show off her passing abilities. The talented lefty has all the tools to help lead Christian to the Breslin Center come March. She will be eligible to play in January due to MHSAA transfer rules.
