LBI Quick Hitter: Hill Road Fall League
The annual fall league hosted by Hill Road Hoops is one of the best ways to prepare for the upcoming season. As many teams and players are working out the kinks before the regular season begins, there was still some good action on display during this Sunday afternoon.
Howell - 30 vs. Flushing - 26
These were two of the better teams that I saw on Sunday afternoon as the Highlanders came from behind to knock off Flushing 30-26. Flushing played without the Bowling Green University commit Clare Glowniak, but was still impressive. Junior Breanna Perry showed off her versatility for the Raiders as she handled the ball on the perimeter, made some strong moves at the basket and was a vocal leader on the defensive end. The Highlanders played a tenacious man to man defense and was led by the 1-2 punch of sophomore point guard Alexis Miller. Miller was very good handling the ball and didn’t commit many turnovers. She got her teammates involved which allowed senior post Erin Honkala to be an inside-outside presence. Both of these teams will be contenders for league championships in their respective conference.
Victoria Perez 2017 5’9” Wing Belleville HS
Perez made her presence felt on the offensive end of the floor as she made some very strong moves off the dribble to finish at the rim with either hand. She also knocked down some perimeter shots in rhythm. She plays within the system of her team which allows her to flourish in any situation.
Kayla Knight 2017 5’11” Wing Arbor Prep Academy HS
Knight was a major contributor on both ends of the floor. She was very disruptive in her teams press defense as she used her length and athleticism to get steals or deflect many passes. She has really improved her overall skill set. She made several nice moves to the basket and showed that she had the confidence to make the open perimeter shot.
Amanda Sape 2017 6’3” Post Bloomfield HS
Sape is a big post that was a force on the defensive end of the floor. Sape took up a lot space in the paint which made it very tough for defenders to score on her and she was always in good position to block many shots and get numerous rebounds. Offensively she ran the floor very well and scored on some nice post moves when she caught it deep on the low blocks. Sape performed very well after missing all of the summer season due to meniscus surgery.
Lasha Petree 2018 5’11” Wing Plymouth Salem HS
Lasha Petree was consistent and solid in all three games today offensively and defensively. The lengthy Petree offensively showed to be very versatile with running the team, strong drives to the basket, and long range three's that also included a four point play. Defensively, she used her length to frustrate opponents and blocked at least 3 shots per game. This is a versatile kid that plays both ends of the floor.
The 2019 combo guard showed signs of being a special player
Mahri Petree 2019 5’9” Point Guard Plymouth Salem HS
The 2019 combo guard showed signs of being a special player. She plays the game with a very high basketball IQ for her age, making all the right passes to set up her teammates and consistently knocking down the open shot. Her high IQ also showed on the defensive end of the floor; playing great team defense and using her long frame to play great on the ball defense. Be on lookout for baby Petree.
