“Three Point Guards That Will Have Breakout Years”

Everyone knows that in every sport you have to have a key piece to take you to the next level. In football it’s a strong quarterback. In baseball it’s a stable pitcher.  Well, in the sport of basketball, you cannot get to the next level if you don’t have a quality point guard. One that can set the tone, get their teammates involved, score at will and last but not least be the coach on the floor. Here are three point guards that fit all these criteria and can take their team to another level.

Kayla Brown 2017 5’7”  PG Dearborn Heights Robichaud
After transferring from Flint Southwestern Academy during her freshman season, Brown did not suit up for the Bulldogs until her sophomore year. She helped to lead Robichaud to a school record 18 wins and also to a conference championship. Brown averaged 15 points and 6 assists per game last season, which also featured All-State post player Chavon Tiggs (Eastern Michigan University) and backcourt mate Kamaria McDaniel (2017). With McDaniel out with an ACL injury for this upcoming season, Brown will have to be at her best every game for the Bulldogs.  Look for her to have some pretty monstrous games this year, as she will be the primary ball handler and scorer for her team.

Camree’ Clegg 2018 5’3” PG Wayne Memorial
This is a player that cannot wait for the 2015-16 season to start. A transfer from state powerhouse Detroit Country Day High School, Clegg enters the Wayne Memorial lineup as their best player. The Zebras, who went a dismal 0-21 last season, struggled on the offensive end of the floor. With Clegg in the lineup, head coach Jarvis Mitchell will put the ball in her hands and the super talented point guard will be able to put up huge numbers. Look for Clegg to have a couple of 30-point games for Wayne Memorial, which will be one of the most improved teams in the state of Michigan.

Alyza Winston 2019 5’5” PG Muskegon Mona Shores
Winston will join a Mona Shores team that made a regionals appearance before bowing out to Grand Rapids Forest Hills last season. She will join Western Michigan commit Jordan Walker in the backcourt, which will make them one of the top tandems on the west side of the state. If Winston can take some of the scoring pressure off of Walker, Mona Shores will have a chance to make a serious tournament run come March.
