Hartman, Jackson, Strother looks to shine this upcoming season

The state of Michigan has produced several premier players over the years. Ariel Powers, Amber Deane, Crystal Bradford, Marte Grays, Shareta Brown and many more, have gone  on to the next level and made significant contributions to top programs across the country.  The class of 2019 promises to carry on that legacy of athletic prowess as it features some very talented players.  Although they have not yet played a varsity high school game, we take a sneak peek at three players that should make an immediate impact on the court come December.

Laya Hartman 5’10” Wing Guard Okemos
A very talented wing, Laya will become a pivotal part of the Okemos varsity basketball team from day one.  Hartman has a solid skill set that allows her to play on or off the ball.  With her size, skill, length and athletic ability, she is able to create her own shot off the dribble against any opponent. Hartman, who already holds scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue and Villanova, should be Okemos’ best offensive threat this upcoming season.

Rickea Jackson 6’1 Wing Forward Detroit Edison
Jackson will be counted on to do a lot for the Pioneers this season and she is more than ready to meet that challenge! Rickea has matured, and gained great experience after playing a major role this past summer with the Nike EYBL Michigan Crossover 15U team. She is a matchup nightmare for her opponents as she can handle the ball well in transition, finish on the break, and is a monster defender who can guard several positions.  Jackson doesn’t hold any offers at this point, but that is likely to change very soon as she continues to dominate on the court.

Destiny Strother 5’10” Wing Guard Flint Carmen-Ainsworth
Strother is a versatile lefty that exhibits a myriad of impressive skills on the court. She had a solid travel season playing up with a very talented Michigan Storm Elite 2018 squad coached by Darrin McAllister.  This team features several D1 caliber players who have received multiple offers, and Destiny is sure to attract the same attention.  She is a solid shooter with range to 20 feet. Her athleticism and ball handling skills never fail to impress as she grabs the rebound, goes to coast to coast with ease, and finishes well even through contact. She will surely be one of the top players in a very tough Saginaw Valley Conference.
