The Player Behind The Game Spotlight: Nastassja Chambers

The class of 2016 is filled with talented players that have left their own personal mark during their high school career. One player that has done this consistently is Nastassja Chambers. Affectionately known as “Staj” by her friends and teammates, Nastassja’s name has been on the 2016 top 10 list since her 8th grade year. She has led her team in scoring for three consecutive years and helped her team make a final four appearance in last season’s state Class C tournament. With a smile that lights up any room, Ms. Chambers on the court attitude is just the opposite. She plays gritty in your face defense and is not afraid to take the ball to the rim. She plays very hard and hustles every minute she is on the court. Her hard work and consistent domination on the court has earned her this week’s LBI “Player Behind the Game” spotlight honors.

Current High School: Arbor Prep High School

What college/university have you committed to?: Wayne State University

What will you major in?: Sports Medicine and then I will move on to the Physical Therapy program.

Why did you choose this school?:  I chose this school because the coaching staff liked me and showed that they wanted me. Their program plays my style of basketball. I think I will fit well with the coaching staff, players and program overall. Ultimately, I picked a school that wanted me just as much as I wanted them.

What were some other offers you received?: Saint Louis University, University of Detroit-Mercy, and Northwood University

Other than basketball, what do you do for fun?:  I like to watch basketball and support my teammates that participate in other sports. I also like hanging out with my friends.

Who is your favorite player and why? At the moment, Derrick Rose is my favorite player. He’s never given up and he comes back after every injury giving 100%. He never gives up…he’s my favorite because of that.

What will you miss most about high school and high school basketball?:  I will miss pregame talks with my teammates and how hype we get before coming out to start a game.

What are you looking forward to the most about college and playing college basketball?: The experience of being a college basketball player and college student in general. It’s exciting to think about.

What advice would you like to give to younger players about basketball and selecting a college/university?:  The advice I would give is that they should select a school that wants you just as much as you want them. Select a school because it is a good fit, not because of the name.

Who would you like to thank for helping you achieve all that you’ve accomplished?: I have to thank God and My parents, Coach Wells, Coach Stine, Coach Colleen, and everyone who helped me get this far and who always believed in me.

Congrats Nastassja on all of your high school success! Continue to strive for greatness this upcoming season, and as a freshman at Wayne State University! The LBI Staff has really enjoyed covering you.
