Davenport Shootout Recap

Grand Rapids, MI - Over 24 of west Michigan's top high school programs converged on the campus of Davenport University to compete in the Davenport Shootout today. Teams traveled from as far as eight hours away to test their metal against west Michigan's finest. Some of Michigan's top talent in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 classes were in attendance.

Haslett and Dewitt were the best teams in the gym this afternoon. I would not be surprised to see both teams make a  strong run for the Breslin Center during the 2015-16 basketball season.

Player Highlights

Karson Tripp  6'  2016  Post  Haslett
Tripp is a rangy, athletic, and can shoot the mid range jump shot and three consistently, Karson is very active defensively and runs the floor extremely well. She will be on the travel circuit with the Michigan Finest this summer.

Meagan Mowix  5'7"  2016  Guard  Haslett
Mowix is a good ball handler with a high basketball IQ. She is a great leader on the court that can shoot the three or midrange shot and finish at the rim.  Meagan can defend both guard positions and has great court vision. She is a player on Michigan Finest travel team.

Emily Vanzenten (Western Michigan)   6'4" 2016   Center  Northview  Vanzenten plays extremely well with her back to the basket. She can finish with either hand at the rim, and is beginning to be able to knock down the three ball.  Emily has excellent footwork and works hard on the boards. Grand Rapids Storm is the travel program that she is a member of.

Markayla Vander  5'8" 2016  Guard  South Christian
Markayla is a very athletic, tough, gritty guard that can get to the rim very easily. She  has a great feel for the game and is an excellent defender. Vander plays travel ball with the  Grand Rapids Storm.

Jen Debeor (Grand Valley State University)  5'6"  2016  PG  South Christian
Jen has a high basketball IQ and is able to hit the three ball consistently. She has excellent lateral quickness, can handle the rock and  plays excellent off the ball as well. Debeor will be hitting the road this summer with the  Grand Rapids Storm.

Eliza Winston  5'6" 2019  PG  Mona Shores
Winston has lightning quick handles and can get to the rim whenever she wants She has great court vision and was definitely one of the best players in the gym today.  Eliza was most impressive finishing with a soft touch in the paint.

Maddie Watters  5'7" 2017  Guard  Rockford
Watters is a crafty guard with excellent court vision. She shoots the three extremely well and also has a nice midrange floater. An excellent passer with a high basketball IQ, Watters is the truth. She definitely showed why she is one of the top 2017 players in Michigan. Maddie plays travel ball with the West Michigan Titans.
