Wayne Memorial Summer League: Preview

The month of June is a very exciting time of year for high school coaches, as many teams will be competing in various college team camps and high school shootouts. LBI gives you a quick preview of the 1st annual Wayne Memorial summer league which kicks off on Tuesday, June 9th and runs until June, 30th. All Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday at Wayne Memorial High School.

1. Wayne Memorial Zebras
The Zebras are coming off a 0-21 season in coach Jarvis Mitchell’s first year on the sideline. They will be one of the most improved teams in the state. Wayne, which played a lot of freshmen last season struggled on the offensive end of the floor. This year that will not be a problem as transfer 2018 point guard Cam Clegg is very capable of putting up big numbers every night. Wayne will always play tough on the defensive end which will keep them in many games this summer.

2. Dearborn Heights Robichaud Bulldogs
Coming off  of their best record (18-3) in school history, the Bulldogs are looking to have another stellar season. Robichaud loses All-State post Chavon Tiggs and All-Conference guard Arionna Davis to graduation, but the cupboard is not bare. The defending Western Wayne Athletic Champions have one of the best backcourts in the state in juniors Kayla Brown and Kamaria McDaniel. They also return Nicole Buffington who will replace Tiggs in the post. Monae Palmer, a transfer from Ypsilanti Lincoln, will add depth to the Bulldogs backcourt.

3. Southfield Lathrup Chargers
The Chargers are good and should be the favorite to cut down the nets in March in the  Class A championship in the 2015-16 season. They are led by twin post players Tayie and Khende Bello and strong backcourt play by senior Antoinette Miller and junior Deja Church. This talented group have been playing together for a few years now and this is their time.

4. Liggett Knights
The Knights will be a completely different team after losing Lola Rostovski and sharpshooter Jessica Rotzell to graduation. They do return junior point guard Nia Ahart who will be asked to score a lot this year. Kendall McConico will add scoring from the perimeter and Jasmine Dickens will anchor the post.

Other teams in league include: Cass Tech, Henry Ford  and Old Redford Academy.
