Raleigh, NC – Day 1 of the Deep South Classic brought many college coaches and travel teams to the Raleigh Convention Center. As usual, the day was filled with top notch elite basketball played by some of the country’s top premier players.

Eleah Parker 2017 6’4” Post Lady Team Charlotte
Parker was dominating in the paint by posting hard on the block which led to some power layups on several occasions. She ran the floor, blocked shots and got some key rebounds. She was very impressive.

Ayana Peoples 2019 5’7” PG Best Choice United
Peoples could possibly get overlooked because she’s playing on a loaded and talented Best Choice United backcourt, but don’t be fooled, she can hold her own with the best of them. She played under control, didn’t force anything and got her teammates involved by breaking down the defense.

Destiny Harden 2017 5’10” Wing Mac Irvin Fire
Destiny Harden drew the biggest buzz of the day due to her having many BCS schools wondering who she was. Her athleticism, big first step and ability to handle the ball in the open floor made her a difficult matchup. She plays with a high motor and was found battling with bigger players for rebounds and loose balls.

Dazia Powell 2017 5’9” Wing Team Carolina
Ms. Powell did a little bit of everything on the court. She shot it well from mid-range and from three-point land. She attacked the rim from the wing where she finished strong or drew a foul.  This resulted in getting some easy points from the free throw line where she finished with a very high percentage

Katlyn Gilbert 2018 5’11” PG Best Choice United
Versatile player that can play both guard spots, Gilbert used her athleticism to score in the paint and her length to shoot and score over her defenders. She rebounded the ball from the guard position where she also pushes it on the break and makes great decisions with the ball in her hands in the open court

Brittany Staves 2019 6’0” Post Triangle Tar Heels
A young post player that has not even scratched the surface yet, Staves just goes out plays basketball. She was able to get easy transition layups by simply running the floor. Brittany rebounded the ball on both ends of the floor and quite frankly did a great job of out hustling her opponents.
