Select 60 2015 Review

The 2nd annual Select 60 Showcase took place over the weekend in Charlotte, NC. The turnout for this event was excellent and the talent pool was deep. Ashley Rivens (Ashley Rivens Training & Lady Elite Hoop Report) and her staff did a great job with the training and skill development sessions.

With so much talent in the gym, a report on the already established players would be easy. I decided to highlight some of the diamonds in the ruff. The players who displayed remarkable talent and showed that they deserve to be included in the top talent conversations.

2017

Shemya Stanback  5’1”  Point Guard   A.L. Brown HS

If you haven’t seen Stanback you are missing a show. Small in stature, but her heart is bigger than most in the gym.  Her lighting speed and her ability to finish in traffic stood out amongst her peers. She is definitely a kid that needs to be on your watch list.

Gerlea Patton  5’7 “ Guard  Charlotte Christian

I have watched Patton for the past couple of years and her hard work is paying off. You can see the improvement in her game in all areas. Her ball handling is sharp, she is in ball player condition and her ability to get teammates involved was hard to deny. I’m looking forward to seeing her continued growth on the circuit this summer.

Jaylin Powell  5’11”  Guard  Rolesville HS

Powell is a kid who does not fit the stereotypical basketball player profile, but when she laces up, watch out! Her ability to score in so many different ways makes her a match up problem. She understands how to use her body and finish with contact. She has a sweet stroke from behind the arc that makes her defenders pay for sagging off of her.  It is going to be fun watching her compete with Coach Norwood and the Carolina All-Stars this summer.

Kianna Funderburk  5’9”  Guard  Myers Park

Kianna is a player that I have watched since she was in the 6th grade. Her progress was stalled by a knee injury but she is back to 100%. The work she is putting in is evident in her conditioning and the way she is currently playing. While she could always shoot the ball from deep, she is finishing strong through contact and plays the passing lanes for steals and layups.

2018

Lauren Carter  5’11”  Forward  SW Guilford HS

Carter’s name has been mentioned to me in the past and now I remember why. She is simply a basketball player! She looks the part and has the tools to accompany it. Lauren is long, has a great stroke and can finish with the best of them. She is definitely one of the top 2018 kids in North Carolina.
