No one expected this game to go the way it went. These two teams’ previous face-off was one for the ages that ended in a two point victory for Marian. There wasn’t any doubt that this game was probably going to be even more intense and go down to the final seconds of the game. Oh boy, were we wrong.

The first quarter was the only quarter that even slightly resembled the first game. After that, the Lady Mustangs took control and never gave it up. They dominated King and forced them to take bad shots and turn the ball over. Even with the relentless play of senior guard Janae Williams, the Lady Crusaders just could not get a rhythm.

I wish there was more to this story but unfortunately there isn’t. Marian did what championship teams do…they won!

Game Highlights

Detroit King:

  • Senior guard Janae Williams finished with 15 points 3 steals and 2 blocks. Williams had a great career at King and will take her talents to IUPUI next season.

  • King did not look like the team we have seen all year. They were missing defensive assignments and not as aggressive offensively as they usually are.

  • This was the first time all year that King scored single digit numbers in two quarters.

Marian:

  • 2017 #1 LBI Prospect Samantha Thomas was everything for Marian. When her sister, starting point guard Bailey Thomas got in early foul trouble, Samantha stepped in with no problem and still was able to crash the boards and make layups. She finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

  • Grays and Grobbel also played very well for Marian, contributing a combined 17 points.

  • Look for the Lady Mustangs to bring home another championship on Saturday afternoon. I am predicting that they will defeat DeWitt 52-47.
