Game Highlights

The last game of the day featured two of the state’s heavyweight teams squaring off in a 32 minute bout. From the tip off Destiny Pitts and the Detroit Country Day Yellow Jackets were on a mission. The hot hand of Pitts rubbed off on her teammates and at one point in the second quarter the Yellow jackets hit three 3 pointers in a row. That shooting spree started with 2016 Arika Tolbert and finished with 2018 LBI #1 Kaela Webb and 2017 LBI#2 Destiny Pitts. I said that this team would have to defend and not just try to outscore Goodrich. That’s exactly what they did.

Goodrich at times looked a little sluggish on the defensive end. They struggled to finish the job on multiple defensive possessions. What I mean by that is they would force Country Day to take uncomfortable shots only to allow them to get countless offensive boards. Tania Davis (2015 MISS BASKETBALL) gave everything she had to try to keep her team in the game. She often penetrated the lane to set up open shots for her teammates or knocked down the big shot herself. In the end it just wasn’t nearly enough. Tania went down with a knee injury early in the fourth quarter which ended the fight for Goodrich. The final score was very unpredictable; Detroit country Day 69, Goodrich 39.

Game Highlights

Goodrich

  • Junior Alexis Sevillian led Goodrich in scoring with 16 points. She will return to be the team floor general next year.

  • Senior Isabella O’Brian had 8 points and 8 rebounds

  • Tania Davis left the game early with a knee injury however finished with 12 points. She will play at the University of Iowa next year.

Detroit Country Day

  • Destiny Pitts was on fire the entire game scoring in a variety of ways. She finished with 28 points 10 rebounds.

  • Detroit Country Day had big contributions from Jordan Wright, Kaela Webb, and Arika Tolbert.

Their team defense was the best I’ve seen all year. The defensive end was held together by 2017 Tylar Bennett.
