Miss Basketball Winner Looks To Leave Her Mark

Goodrich vs. Detroit Country Day: Game Preview

Friday, March 20 at 7:50pm

Breslin Center, East Lansing

So here we are at championship weekend, the most important weekend of the Michigan high school girls’ basketball season. Basketball fans have the pleasure of watching and cheering for a historically good program in Detroit Country Day vs a program that has made their own history and has been a class B power house over the last six years; Goodrich.  Detroit Country Day looks to win its first state championship since 2009 which at the time was number 9 for the school dating back to 1973. Country Day is led by 2017 Destiny Pitts who has proven she can score with all the big guns in the state. Tania “SUPERGIRL” Davis and the lady Martians of Goodrich have other plans. Goodrich, who has been to the Breslin Center 3 years out of 4 of Tania’s high school career are determined to send their super senior out with the ultimate prize. The 2015 Miss Basketball award winner (Pictured Above) has done everything except fly through the sky to help her team. She gets the big rebounds, big steals, big assist, big buckets, and even the big block when her team needs it. Tania just finds a way to keep winning. She’s even sacrificed her body to take charges from players twice her size. She does all of this at the size of 5’3”. Maybe the kid can fly and we just don’t know it yet… Either way we are in for a treat when these teams hit the floor.

Keys To Victory

Goodrich:

  • Guards have to apply lots off ball pressure without getting in foul trouble.

  • Knock down the outside shot and be in a position to rebound in case they don’t.

  • Switch up defenses often to catch Country Day’s young back court off guard.

  • Force Country Day to defend early.

Detroit Country Day:

  • Country Day has to defend not try to outscore Goodrich.

  • Get easy transition points.

  • Keep the ball out of Tania’s hands as much as possible. She is their floor general and the Martians feed off of her.

  • Be aggressive offensively and get to the free throw line. Don’t settle for outside shooting.

Prediction: We will see a close first half, but “Supergirl” will dominate Country Day’s young team in the second half. Goodrich will pull ahead to win and play in the state championship game.

Final Score: Goodrich 49-42 over Detroit Country Day
