Class C Semifinals Matchup

Flint Hamady vs. Ypsilanti Arbor Prep
March 19th, 2015 2:50PM
Breslin Center

This Class C semifinals matchup is one that the fans have been waiting for since the MHSSA brackets came out in October. Both teams have been the number one and number two ranked teams in Class C all season long. Flint Hamady (24-1) is led by 2016 point guard Jalisha Terry who is coming off an impressive 27 points and 5 assists performance in a quarterfinal matchup against Saginaw Nouvel.  Arbor Prep (22-3) has played the toughest schedule in the state and is led by 2016 guard Nastassja Chambers who has helped the Lady Gators cruise past every opponent by 20 plus points during this state tournament run.

Flint Hamady is looking to win its first State Championship since they took home the title in 2010, while the Gators are looking to capture their first state championship in school history.

Keys To Victory

Flint Hamady

  • Must be able to handle Arbor Prep full & half court pressure.

  • Rebound-Rebound-Rebound!

  • The Hawks must have more from Hill and Rice offensively.

  • Win the turnover battle! They must pressure the Gator’s back court.

  • Must contain Chambers and not allow her to take over the game.

  • Don’t get behind early.

  • Make it a half-court game and slow down Arbor Prep in transition.

Arbor Prep

  • Make Terry work. Force her to take tough shots and get the ball out of her hands as much as possible.

  • Don’t let Rice get any open looks. If she gets hot it will hurt.

  • Win the offensive rebounding battle.

  • Get Sims going early in the game to add another offensive threat.

  • Make this an up-tempo game. Beat Hamady back in transition.

  • Keep applying the pressure. All gas, no break.

Prediction

Well, Well, Well…this game is getting all the hype like the 1990 NCAA National Championship game between the Duke Blue Devils and the UNLV Running Rebels. If you are a basketball junkie or old enough to remember, you should know what happen in that game. This contest will be much closer, but when it is all said & done on Thursday afternoon Arbor Prep with its speed and defensive pressure will be advancing to the Class C State Championship game on Saturday.

Final:

Arbor Prep 55 Flint Hamady 44
