Winners of 20 straight games and all senior starting lineup, many believed that the Plymouth Salem Rocks would be on its way to a quarterfinal appearance, but that was before they faced a hungry and very talented Hartland Eagles squad that would go on and defeat the Rocks 58-42 to advance to the Class A Quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
The more experienced Rocks jumped out to early 8-3 lead led by the fine play of seniors Jamyra Wilson and Shara Long. After a timeout by the Eagles to get themselves under control, Graysen Cocekerham knocked a 3 point shot, but the Eagles still trailed 11-6 after 1. Going into the half tied up at 19, the Eagles opened up the 3rd quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 26-19 lead. Leading 35-27 going into the 4th, Salem Lasha Petree drilled a long triple and Haley Rogers scored on a layup to pull the Rocks within 3 points, but that’s when Hartland’s Lexi Tobel went to work. The sophomore scored off a nice dribble drive move and then came back down and knocked down a deep three to put the Eagles up 10 and they would never look back, as they won there first Regional Championship in school history. Salem was led by Shara Long 20 points and 7 rebounds, while freshman Graysen Cockerham and sophopmore Lexi Tobel led Hartland with 17 points a piece.
