Can Taiye Bello Lead Lathrup Past The Defending Champs

Bloomfield Marian vs. Southfield Lathrup: Game Preview

Tuesday, March 10 at 5:30pm

Southfield High School

In a perfect basketball world this matchup would be the ultimate state championship game. However, this is not a perfect world, so we have to see this great match up a little early. This game is perhaps one of, if not the most, highly anticipated game of the year. The defending state champs Bloomfield Marian are looking to hold on to their crown and claim back to back championships.  Southfield Lathrup also has plans, and that’s to bring the 2015 title from Lansing to Southfield. Both teams hold a well-earned regular season record of 19-1, are well coached and evenly matched in every position with some of the state’s top players. The winner of this game could potentially be the Class A state champ.

Keys To Victory

Southfield Lathrup:

  • Guards have to apply lots off ball pressure without getting in foul trouble.
  • The back court must be discipline on offense and stick to the team’s plan. Individual ball can and will hurt them.
  • The front court has to rebound and not allow Marian any second attempts.
  • The team must execute on offense. Turnover will definitely hurt them.
  • Lathrup must keep a hand in the face of Marian’s shooters. If not, they will knock down numerous three pointers.

Bloomfield Marian:

  • Multiple players must crash the boards and win the rebounding war.
  • Get easy transition points.
  • Stop Lathrup guards from doing what they are so great at…penetrating the paint.
  • Be aggressive offensively and get to the free throw line.
  • Make Lathrup execute in a half court setting.

Prediction: After multiple lead changes, ties and crowd cheers, the relentless defense and consistent free throw shooting of Lady Mustangs of Marian will give them the edge they need to advance to the next round.

Final Score: Marian 55  Lathrup 51
