Fort Wayne, IN: In today’s recruiting landscape, college coaches are increasingly turning to the transfer portal to find impact players who can immediately bolster their rosters. However, there are still some outstanding high school athletes in the class of 2028 who are gaining attention from college coaches. Michigan remains a hotspot for talent, and this upcoming class features several players who are poised to make an immediate impact once they arrive on campus in a few years. Here are five standout players from the 2028 class who impressed at the Queen of the Rock event this weekend.
Stephens & Hunt Are Big Time Players
Kenna Hunt (Legends U) and Paisley Stephens (Michigan Crossover EYBL) are the top players in the Michigan 2028 class. Hunt is a combo guard capable of scoring both off the dribble and from the perimeter. The smooth guard is currently playing up a grade on the 16U team for Legends U P24. She has received offers from Akron, Kent State, and Central Michigan, and I expect she will attract more offers over the summer.
Stephens is coming off a state championship with her high school team, where she played a significant role during her freshman season. Now, she is leading her travel club team. Paisley is a skilled ball handler with a quick first step, capable of finishing through contact, and she excels as a passer. Currently, Stephens holds offers from Detroit Mercy, Central Michigan, and Chicago State.
West Michigan Drive Young Guns
It's uncommon to see a youth movement in the backcourt at the 17U level, but the WM Drive has embraced this approach, and it's proving to be effective. Addison Wypch and Jana Honeycutt played pivotal roles in their 66-54 victory over Midwest Elite EYBL, each scoring 14 points. The west side of the state has produced the past two Miss Basketball winners, and with Wypch and Honeycutt performing at such a high level, it wouldn't be surprising to see their names on the ballot in a few years.
Young Is Not A Surprise Anymore
6'2" Lucy Young from Macon Academy has demonstrated that she can compete at the highest level alongside top players. She has been outstanding all spring, and during a recent game against the Michigan Crossover EYBL squad on Saturday night, she made a significant impact, finishing with 19 points and 12 rebounds while also contributing defensively. Expect to see numerous college coaches watching her closely for the remainder of the summer.
