2nd Annual Lady Phoenix Shootout

Detroit, MI – Some of Michigan’s best and brightest teams rolled into Detroit Renaissance for the 2nd annual Lady Phoenix Shootout. It was cold and snowy outside but inside, the gym was on fire. The games were competitive, intense, and exciting. Each team played with a lot of heart and perseverance. It was a good night filled with great basketball.

STAND OUT PLAYERS:

Amaya Smith 2024 | Lake Fenton
Small in size but big in heart, Amaya was a key component in her team’s win. She was feisty and tough on both ends. She played hard and smart. She was able to impact the game with and without the ball in her hands. Amaya also lit up the perimeter from deep. She finished with 10 points.

Makenna Clement 2023 | Lake Fenton
Makenna played big on offense and defense. She was a key rebounder and also took some hard contact around the rim. She used her long stretch to alter shots and deflect passes. Makenna did a great job of running the court in transition and making herself available to score. Makenna earned 10 points.

Ce’Niyah Williams 2025 | Detroit Mumford
Long, and versatile, with a soft touch and a good feel for the game, Ce’Niyah was consistent and present on every possession. She knows how to move without the ball and position herself for easy buckets. She also was great at protecting the basket on defense and grabbing some big rebounds. Ce’Niyah is not afraid to step behind the arc and let it fly from deep. She has a lot of potential to become a top player in the DPSL. She finished with 10 points.

Kayla Covington 2023 | Arbor Prep (Signed with Wayne State)
Hands down the most dominant player in the paint of the game, Kayla owned the backboard. She had great footwork and a feel for her defender. She stepped up when her team was down and sparked a run that would ultimately lead to a win. Kayla played almost every minute of the game. She finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Stephanie and Stacy Utomi  2024 | Arbor Prep
If resiliency and toughness were a profession, the Utomi Twins would be ready to start their careers. There wasn’t anything that they didn’t do. They scored, they rebounded, they made great passes, they defended well, and last but not least, they played through fatigue in a very physical game. They got their teammates involved and complimented each other well. Stephanie would finish with 15 points, and Stacy earned 13.

Summer and Indya Davis  2024 | West Bloomfield (Michigan State University commits)
It was amazing how intense yet even kill these young ballers are. Every second they were on the court, you knew it. Summer lit the court up from everywhere, almost unstoppable. While Indya was the muscle and power presence around the rim and in the paint. They both have incredible on the ball defense and know how to create scoring opportunities for themselves and their teammates.  The Davis Twins scored a game-high 21 (Summer) and 20 (Indya) points.

Mayana Cooksey 2024 | Detroit Edison
Smart, patient, high IQ, and a quick first step, Mayanna is going to always be Mayanna. She’s an offensive threat in more ways than one. She is vocal and a leader on the floor. She can read the defense and make the necessary adjustments; and just as sure as the sun is going to shine, Mayana is going to give all she as on defense. She finished with 16 points and a hard-earned victory.

Madison Greene 2023 | Pickerington Central (OH)
Toughness and grit made this point guard one of the best on the court. Madison is athletic, with a lot of skill and even more heart. She showed that she has the ability to control the tempo of the game on offense and defense. Her tenacity and endurance were unmatched. She had some big plays in a very intense game. She scored a team-high 16 points.

Christian Sanders 2024 | Detroit Renaissance
Christian is quick, crafty, and smart. She did a great job of being the floor general and controlling the offensive flow. She’s smart and made great decisions with the ball. She can score in multiple ways and was a power source for her squad. Congratulations to Christian on receiving her track & field state championship ring at halftime. She finished an impressive performance with a tournament-high 36 points.

Rylan Buschell 2025 | Belleville
Rylan plays hard. When she is on the court, you know it. She’s got quick feet and a quick mind, making great decisions in tight situations. She sees the court and made some great passes to her teammates. On defense, she used her speed to stay two steps in front of her opponent and did a good job of playing the lanes and getting easy steals.  She ended the game with 10 points.
