LBI Round Up: Wilkins Summer League Championship Day (Belleville, MI)

By Keith Wade @wadesworld32, 06/25/21, 9:15PM EDT

Belleville, MI: This First annual Wilkins summer league capped off the summer with a single elimination tournament that raised the stakes and increased the competition between some of the better teams in the state. Dexter, Gabriel Richard, Wayne Memorial, and Arbor Prep made it to the final four with Arbor Prep knocking off Wayne in the championship game that was full of big-time players making big-time plays. Day 4 had its share of players stepping up and standing out!

Sylver Bowles Ypsilanti 2024 Guard
Sylver had a good night shooting the basketball, catching it in transition or in the flow of the offense Sylver showed her range and her sweet form to knock down some deep threes to help her squad go 1-1 on the evening.

Karianna Woods Arbor Prep 2022 Guard
Kari is instant energy effort and grit when she touches the floor, in the press, or in straight up man Kari is all over the floor making defensive plays and causing havoc to any and everyone trying to handle the ball. Kari turned turnovers into easy baskets on multiple occasions helping lead Arbor Prep to the Summer League championship.

Jordan Wright Ann Arbor Huron 2022 Point Guard
Jordan who has had a great string of games during league play maintained her dominance on day 4 using her speed and shiftiness to get in the lane and score or drop a dime to a teammate. Jordans River Rat squad fell short of advancing but she was consistently one of the top players on the floor each night.

Maddy Benard Grosse Pointe South 2025 Guard
Maddy has a gift of scoring the ball and using the bounce to create shots, even with extra attention from the defense Maddy still found ways to get to the hoop, finish in traffic, she also showed great mechanics on her J which she knocked down frequently. Maddy won’t play her first varsity game of her career until this Winter but she definitely looks ready to go.

Mya Petticord Arbor Prep  2022 Guard
Mya had to dig a little deeper in her bag tonight in her team’s semi- final victory vs Dexter. Dexter had a lead in the 2nd half until Mya turned up the heat on both ends of the floor forcing turnovers in the press and scoring with ease off the turnovers. Knocking down the jumper or getting to the rack it was showtime and Mya was leading the show. Mya who I coined the League MVP was on a different level all four days and helped lead her team to the League Championship.

Chloe Perry Dexter 2023 Guard
Chloe, once again had it going tonight. Playing short handed she was extra aggressive making plays off the dribble getting to the basket and knocking down the J. Dexter lost to Arbor Prep in the semis but Chloe did everything she could to get the victory.

Jayla Jackson Wayne Memorial Guard 2026
Jayla and her squad fell short in the championship game to Arbor Prep but Jayla quickly showed she more than belonged. Dropping some sweet dimes or scoring the rock Jayla played well beyond her years and was one of the best players on the floor made up of high school players. Jayla is a special one of a kind talent and it’s only going to get worse for all defenders in her way.

Aizlyn Albanese Gabriel Richard Guard 2025
Aizlyn played well on day 4 helping Richard reach the semis before falling to Wayne Memorial. Aizlyn has a great feel for the game she knows how to find her spots on the floor and she plays with a smooth deliberate style that allows her to score in multiple ways. Aizlyn, another young player who plays much older has a crazy bright future and will be fun to watch the next four years.
