Belleville, MI: The Middle School travel season is underway! Many of the state’s top teams and stars of tomorrow were on hand for a great day of basketball. In October, we were able to see a lot of these players in an individual setting at the rising stars event, at the Motor City Classic we were able to see some of these kids in a team setting as well as evaluate some new talent. Here are a few Class of 2024 standouts...

Summer Davis 5’9" 2024 SG (Michigan Storm-Simpkins)
Coming off a huge summer playing up two grades with the 9th Grade storm team in the GUAA, Summer Davis simply put looked dominant yesterday playing against her age group as she put it all together, leading her team to a championship. At 5’9, her length allows her to be a pesky defender as well as protect the ball away from opponents. She uses her frame to absorb contact, and she scores the ball in bunches inside and out. Very impressive performance all day long!

Anaya Billups 5’11" 2024 SF (1 Nation Dream Team)
Maybe the most athletic 8th-grade prospect in the state in my eyes; Anaya Billups's best days are ahead of her. However, don’t get that misconstrued as she produces at this level right now. A versatile wing equipped with a solid handle, she knocked down shots from deep, got inside to finish, and time will bring more control. Defensively she can be a pest as she checks all over the floor.

Bailey Pickens 5’6" 2024 SG (Michigan Crossover)
It seems like every time I watch this kid play, something about her game improves. When I first saw her last year, she was a bully in transition and got after opponents on the ball. Fast forward and her offensive game is becoming more and more complete as her passing is becoming more effective and she’s stretching her range shooting the long ball with fluidity and it’s a sight to see, it’s evident her game will only grow even more as time progresses.
