2021 Day’Anna Marr of Adrian High School Shined At The LBI Summer Sweet 16 On Friday Night

Belleville, MI: It’s officially the summer season!  For high school basketball players, it's known as the “off-season.”  For high school teams all over the country, it’s a time to build program culture and team chemistry.  For each individual, it’s a time to develop skill and assume new roles as the 2019 class has graduated and moved on.  Lady Ballers Insider provided a platform for 16 teams, to do those above, at the 2019 LBI Summer Sweet 16.  Here are a few team and players that stood out.

Ann Arbor Huron goes 3-0 Super Platinum Division Champions.

AA Huron boasts wins over Okemos, Kalamazoo Central, and Jenison on Friday.  The 10 point win over Jenison was arguably the most competitive game of the day.  Jenison was without its best player, Aly Vantimmeren, but none the less this highly competitive game pushed both teams to the limit.  The AA Huron senior guards took control and provided much-needed composure down the stretch.  2020 PG Reeya Patel was rock solid as she was able to handle the ball vs. Jenison pressure and make critical decisions to put her team in positions to score.  Twins, Jadyn, and Siena Smith were also clutch as they both knocked down perimeter shots to thwart any attempts made by Jenison to take control of the game.  2020 SF Alexa Lyon did a little bit of everything for AA Huron.  She was an impact presence on the boards and on defense.  Even with the loss of Eden Johnson (Fordham), Head Coach Scott Hunter has returning seasoned players and seems to be poised to be consistently in a position to win night in and night out.

Summer Sweet 16 Top Performers

2021 Kayionna Willis PG 5’3” Southfield A&T
Kayionna Willis was playing like she had something to prove.  Willis created opportunities with her defense and slashed her way to 16 1st half points vs. Flat Rock.  Then she proceeded to knock down three 2nd half triples for good measure.  Willis was a crucial component to the Southfield attack on both ends of the court throughout the evening.

2021 Hunter Conway CG 5’9” Belleville
Rising Junior, Hunter Conway is going to be a problem.  Conway is a smooth combo guard, with very good court vision, who is just scratching the surface of her potential.  For the upcoming season, Conway will have to assume a leadership role for a young Belleville team, but there is no doubt she has the talent to make an impact in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association.

2022 Kamryn Richards CG 5’6” Grosse Point South
I first saw Kamryn Richards a few years ago coming off the bench for the Michigan Crossover.  One thing that has remained consistent is that she wears her passion for basketball and winning on her sleeve.  Something else I’ve noticed is that she has improved tremendously.  She has a great motor that she leverages to move exceptionally well off the ball.  She handles the ball well and provides stability her team needs vs. pressure.  Look for Richards to continue to improve and lead her team to a successful 2019-2020 season.
