State Semi-Finals Player Recap
Division I and II
Friday, March 22, 2019
Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI

DIVISION I

Jeanae Terry  2019  5’10”  Guard  Wayne Memorial (Illinois Commit)
Terry did what she has done for the last four years. Play basketball at an exceptionally high level and help make those around her better. Her final “who-rah” Terry scored a game-high 26 points and literally left it all on the court.

Sammiyah Hoskin  2019   5’10”  Guard  Wayne Memorial
Coaches hope to get a player like Hoskin. A kid that gives the same energy and effort on defense and offense. Hoskin is a hustle kid, and because of her hustle, her team had a chance to win. She finished with 14 points.

Moria Joiner 2019  5’9”  PG  Saginaw Heritage  (Michigan State Commit)
When the game gets crazy, and your team goes from dominating to being on the verge of going home, a player like Moria is whom you want with the ball in her hands, leading the team. During an unbelieve run from an athletic and tough Wayne Memorial team, Moria kept her composure, did not get rattled and hit some big free throws in the clutch. She scored 14 points.

Alexis Johnson  2019  5’11”  Wing/Post  Southfield A&T (Marshall Commit)
Alexis is strong and athletic for her size, and she knows how to use it to her advantage. Her rebounding, short pull-ups, and versatile defending ability helped her team survive a determined Muskegon team. She finished with 18 points.

Alyaza Winston  2019  5’8”  Guard  Muskegon  (Michigan State Commit)
When the going gets tough, great players put their team on their back and do what they need to do to win. With the season and chance at a state championship on the line, that’s precisely what Alyza did. She gave her all up until the final seconds. Although she fell short of a win, she went out with a bang, scoring a game-high 25 points.

DIVISION II

A.J. Ediger   2021  6’2”  Post  Hamilton
A.J. did not play like a sophomore. In fact, if I did not know she was so young, I wouldn’t believe it. She dominated the boards on both ends of the court, and today, she could not be stopped. A.J. kept the ball high, had excellent footwork and finished at the rim strong, even with hard contact. She earned a double-double, 30 points, and 17 rebounds.

Kaydn Blanchard 2020  5’8”  Guard  Freeland
When people were close to counting her team out of the game, Kaydn dug deep and pulled them out of the quicksand. Scoring 13 of her team’s last 15 points in the third quarter, Kaydn refused to quit, and she is now playing for a state title. She finished with a team-high 23 points.

Skyla Nosek  2021  5’9”  Guard  Haslett
Skyla put her all on the line for her team against the powerhouse Detroit Edison. She played hard on every possession and hit some big shots throughout the game.
Looking forward to watching her game grow in the upcoming years. She finished with 16 points.

Gabrielle Elliott  2020  5’10”  Wing  Detroit Edison
Gabbie’s inside/outside game was on full display. She scored from all over the court and played multiple positions throughout the game. Her game was smooth and consistent, allowing her to score 21 points.

Rickea Jackson  2019  6’3”  Wing/Guard  Detroit Edison  (Mississippi State Commit)
The 2019 Miss Basketball winner was unstoppable. At one point in the game, she scored 10 of Edison’s last 13 points and was showing zero signs of fatigue or frustration. She defended multiple positions, including the point guard, and did so with ease. She finished with a game-high 26 points.
