Lots of talent on display at Preseason Scrimmage

Charlotte, NC – This years LBI Preseason Scrimmage featured some very good teams from North Carolina and South Carolina. North Carolina’s top team Mallard Creek played host to the talented group that featured South Carolina state champion North Augusta and one of North Carolina’s top 3A teams Ashbrook. While this was just a scrimmage we wanted to make it more competitive so we changed the format to more of a tournament. Which concluded with the game that everyone wanted to see. North Carolina power Mallard Creek vs South Carolina power North Augusta and no one left disappointed.

Top Teams

North Augusta – Led by senior Amari Young 6’ wing (ODU Signee) and junior Mya Burns 6’ wing the Lady Yellowjackets play a swarming defense that would give any high school team problems. Every team they faced had a hard time coming by buckets. On the offensive end Young and Burns are super athletic and do a great job on the glass. Senior Sarah Crews 5’6 guard knocked down some huge shots from behind the arc. This group seems to be on track for a repeat.

Mallard Creek - The Creek’s backcourt of seniors Ahlana Smith 5’9 guard (UCLA signee), Janay Sanders 5’10 guard (LaSalle signee) and junior Dazia Lawrence 5’9 guard makes them a tough out for anyone. Mallard Creek loves to pressure the ball and create offense from their defense. Senior E’Mya Price 5’9 guard gives them another weapon on the wing that can knock down the 3 ball and she is as tough as they come.  Look for another deep run in the playoffs and maybe they seal the deal this year.

Woodmont – Sophomore Jarae Smith 5’6 guard is a spark plug that is capable of getting hot very quickly. When you add in the defensive intensity that this team plays with, anchored by Azriela Folkes a 6’1 junior who has great shot blocking timing you get a very good team that is poised for a good season. This group is hardnosed and fun to watch. They may be really scary by March.
