Sunday workouts with Team Elite

Atlanta, GA - As a lover of girls basketball I was very curious to find out how a club like Team Elite has so much success from year to year in arguably the best and most competitive travel basketball league in the country. Coming off back to back Nike National championships you have to mention them when talking about the top clubs in America. Co-directors Chad Hubbard and Kirk Pointer invited me down to see for myself.

While driving through a neighborhood where the homes start at $700,000 I began to wonder if I was going to walk into the gym and see Vertimax machines, shooting guns and all of the other gadgets that people say athletes need to get to the next level. I was proven wrong as soon as I stepped through the door. The environment reminded me of when I was coming up, there was nothing there but coaches and kids ready to work hard. You could tell that the standard was no BS tolerated. There was no playing around on the sidelines or talking to each other during instructions. The tempo was fast, the intensity was high like you would expect to see at a college practice and the attention to detail was unlike anything I have seen in travel ball. The workout lasted 2 hours and concluded with 30 mins of 5 on 5. It was great to see the girls incorporate what they had just worked on into their games on the court. At the end of the workout I had come to the conclusion that Team Elite is a true blue collar organization where nothing is given and everything is earned.

I was able to see some fresh young talent out of Georgia before they set out on their journeys with their high school teams. Here are a few of the many talented players that attended.

Mikaylin Glover 2020 5’7 Guard (Clark Central)
Very good in transition, good handle, can knock down the 3 ball, defends the 1 or 2 well

Jayla Kimbrough 2020 5’9 Guard (SW Dekalb)
Big guard, very skilled, rebounds her position, good on ball defender, just scratching the surface has a chance to be really good

Taylor Cullnan 2021 6’1 SF (North Paulding)

Keely Brown 2020 5’9 Guard (Luella)
High level athlete can jump out the gym, good court vision, next level passer, handle, lock down defender with the ability to guard 1-3

Selma Kulo 2020 6’4 Post (Brookwood)
Very good jump shot, good footwork in the post, keeps it high and has a soft touch, finishes through contact, runs the floor
