Day 2 of the LBI Summer Sizzler provided more high caliber action for fans and coaches to enjoy

Romulus, MI:  Day 2 of the LBI Summer Sizzler provided more high caliber action for fans and coaches to enjoy.  The teams and players did not disappoint those in attendance.  There were top-notch teams and nationally ranked players competing at a high level.  It wasn’t just the veterans turning heads though; the youngsters were also putting in work.  Day 2 was filled with the same drama as Day one and then some.  Several games went down to the wire and were decided by late game (s)heroics from prime time performers. Old rivalries were renewed and new rivalries were established during Day 2 as well. The action was fierce and non-stop.  It was entertaining to watch these young ladies compete for the fans and college coaches.  Following are some noteworthy performances from Day 2:

Prime Performers:

Maria Targosz 2019 SG TC Elite
Maria started the day with a good shooting performance against the Toledo Thunder.  She caught fire early in the contest, burying four (4) 3 pointers in the first half en route to a game high 16 points in a loss to the Thunder.

Macy Brown 2023 SG MBA 2021
Brown showed why she is a bright spot in the 2023 class.  She is the youngest and most versatile player on a very talented MBA 2021 squad.  Macy handled the ball well against pressure from the Michigan Mystics, ran the offense at times and showed off her lefty shooting touch.  Macy was a big part of a late MBA run that came up short in a 48-47 loss to the Mystics.

Abby Kimball  2022  SG  MBA 2021
In a 1-point loss to the Michigan Mystics, Abby showed that she is a knock down shooter.  With MBA down by 10 late in the game she knocked down three jumpers, the last one a three-pointer, to cut the lead to 3.  On the next possession she got a steal and an assist that cut the lead to 1.  Kimball scored all of her field goals in crunch time and made all 5 of her free throws finishing with 12 points.

Saniaa Walker 2021 SG Michigan Mystics Black
Walker was instrumental in the Mystics narrow 48-47 victory over MBA 2021. Her energy and intensity provided a spark on offense and defense.  Saniaa’s disruptive activity on defense caused turnovers that led to uncontested transition layups for the Mystics.  On offense she stayed in attack mode and got to the basket early and often to the tune of 12 points in the Mystics win.

Mallory McCartney 2019 PG  Michigan Select
Mallory had a good showing against a very good Michigan Crossover team.  In the 48-45 loss Mallory shot the ball with confidence against constant pressure.  She helped shoot the Select into the lead, which they held for a considerable part of the game.  Her ability to handle the ball limited turnovers for her team allowing them to stay competitive until the end.

Alli Carlson 2022  PG MBA 2021
Carlson dazzled the crowd with some electrifying moves on Day 2.  She is a dynamic playmaker who consistently draws oohs and ahhs from the crowd.  Her quickness allows her to get to the rim at will.  She kept the pressure on the defense every game as she pushed the tempo on every possession.  Alli also showed that she can shoot the ball from the perimeter with consistency and range at any competition level.

Jala Johnson 2019  PG  Toledo Thunder Black
Johnson made some necessary adjustments in her play in a game against the Michigan Crossover.  She played solid throughout making plays from the point guard spot.  She ran the offense and was effective on defense.  The Thunder were down most of the first half but the momentum shifted midway through the second half.  Jala was a big part of that swing as she took on a scoring role after the break.  She exploited the pressure defense with her quickness and ball handling to continually get in the lane.  This translated into easy baskets for Jala and teammates.  She also made some difficult shots in traffic and drew fouls, icing the game late from the free throw line.

Jakeira Wash 2020 PG  Michigan Mystics Donnelly
The Mystics found themselves in a tight battle with the Grand Rapids Storm on Monday.  In a contest that featured a several lead changes, it was Wash who came to the forefront to lead her team to victory.  She dominated the game’s late stages from the point guard position.  On one exchange in the second half Jakeira took a rebound coast to coast for a score, harassed a Storm ball handler into a turnover and threw the ball ahead to a teammate for a layup.  Jakeira controlled the tempo in the game for the Mystics and hit three (3) triples from the corner to help the Mystics pull away.
