Ypsilanti, MI was the place to be this past Mother’s Day Weekend. Most of the elite travel clubs in the state, as well as Chicago’s best, were at Lincoln High School doing battle. There was no shortage of fierce competition on any court; these teams came to play!

Here a few standout individual performances:

Kaylee Argyle 2018 Wing Guard Michigan Select
Argyle brought her “A” game over the weekend. Scoring the ball in many different ways, she pulled out  a few wins for her Michigan Select squad. Kaylee shot the ball well from behind arc and made her way to the free throw line after aggressively attacking the basket. She also pushed the ball in transition and found her open teammates.

Gabby Smith 2018 Wing Guard Illinois X-Citement
Smith has good size and she used it to her advantage. She has nice athleticism that allows her to get off the floor quick and that helps her on both sides of the glass. She has the ability to shoot from mid-range and can make baskets inside while absorbing contact. Gabby was key component in X-Citement 59-58 win over the Michigan Crossover EYBL

Katelyn Sherwood 2018 Point Guard Factory Basketball Elite
Sherwood’s  game has improved a lot this spring period. Over the weekend she showed her swagger game with nice ball handling skills and quick moves that freed her up to get to the rim. She converted on multiple “and ones”, and showed her ability to hit the 10-15 feet jump shot consistently.

Kennedy Johnson 2018 Wing Guard Michigan Sting
Johnson is an aggressive guard who uses her quickness to blow by her defenders and attack the basket. She scored easily getting multiple buckets in transition. She was a great ball defender and caused a lot of trouble for most guards.

Daz’Sha Day 2018 Point Guard West Michigan Drive 2018
In Saturday’s opener against Top Ten, Daz’Sha came out in attack mode. The Drive got off to a slow start, but were kept in the game by Day’s 10 first half points.  In the second half she was all over the court on both ends causing turnovers on defense and driving relentlessly to the basket for layups or drawing fouls. She controlled the tempo down the stretch and came up with some big baskets to help the Drive survive with a 34-33 win.

Dalyn Henderson 2018 Wing Guard 1 Nation Open
In a contest of evenly matched teams Dalyn proved to be the difference.  With the game in the balance Henderson scored her team’s last three baskets to put them ahead by one.  Factory Basketball had the last possession of the game and Dalyn pressured the ball handler into a double dribble turnover that sealed 1Nations thrilling 43-42 victory.  She led all scorers with 15 points.

Alexis Miller 2018 Point Guard Michigan Sting Johnson
Alexis turned in a very impressive performance against Top Ten on Saturday.  She kept things under control for the Sting as they battled Top Ten’s pressure defense.  From the PG spot Alexis took on the brunt of the scoring load, leading all scorers with 20 points.  She made great decisions with the ball and was deadly from three-point range.  Down the stretch she kept the ball in her hands and when fouled, stepped up and made free throws to seal the deal, 55-50.

Sha’Kyla Parker 2019 West Michigan Drive
Parker is a consistent shooter from behind the arc! In a championship battle against Michigan Crossover 14u, she knocked down five triples and easily got to the rim with one or two dribbles. Although Parker had a lot in her tank it wasn’t enough to get the victory for her West Michigan Drive squad.

Maddie Novak 2019 1 Nation Elite
Novak was impressive all weekend helping her 1 Nation squad win all of their games. Her presence on the floor was known as she knocked down open shots and got to the rim whenever she felt like it. She ran the floor and scored a lot of fast break points. She has stepped up her play and was a threat on the defensive end of the court this weekend.

Alyssa Argyle 2019 Michigan Select
A solid guard, Argyle scored the ball in transition and handled the pressure well while being closely guarded all game. Her smooth handles caused her defenders to retreat and she pulled up for the mid range shot. She can also shoot it from deep. Alyssa was very active on the defensive end and forced numerous turnovers that contributed to fast break points for her squad.

Kimeira Burks 2019 Illinois X-Citement
Burks was one of the best shooters in the gym all weekend. Her three point shot is truly impressive. She shot the ball so well,  it caused teams to focus mostly on her, leaving her teammates open to score.  In a competitive game against Michigan Select, Burks hit five consecutive triples and was a rebounding machine!

Janae Terry 2019 Wing Guard 1 Nation Elite
Janae put her imprint on Saturday’s game against the Michigan Crossover from the onset.  They got off to an early lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.  Her aggressive play on defense set the tone.  She came up with key steals to stop Crossover runs.  Terry had everything working in this game as she hit a few long daggers and completed a couple of “and one” opportunities that maintained 1Nation’s lead.  She led 1Nation with 22 points in their 77-66 win.

Rickea Jackson 2019 Wing Forward Michigan Crossover 16U EYBL
Rickea showed why she is one of the nation’s top players in Saturday’s matchup with 1Nation Elite.  She gave a valiant effort as she led a short-handed Crossover team against a very talented 1Nation Elite squad.  Her game high 23 points weren’t enough to overtake 1Nation in a 77-66 loss, but her ability to score in bunches kept the crowd captivated until the end.  With Crossover down by as many as twenty in the first half, Jackson brought her team back within striking distance with 14 second half points.

Diamond Stiles 2020 Point Guard Mac Irvin Fire 15 Yellow
The most dramatic game of the weekend was Mac Irvin Fire’s 40-39 OT win over the Jackson Jets on Saturday.  Stiles led the way for the Fire as she controlled tempo and came up with the big plays that were needed in the end.  With the Jets up late, Diamond delivered five points down the stretch to send the game into overtime.  In the extra session she took great care of the ball and managed the clock well before hitting the front end of a 1-and-1 with 17 seconds left which proved to be the

Damiya Hageman 2021 Michigan Crossover 14U
