Many new faces played very well on Day 3

Adrain Folks '19 had a good weekend at the Midwest Spring Classic

Alli Keyser 2019 PG Michigan Rage Red

Although Day 3 of the LBI Midwest Spring Classic marked the end of this year’s tournament, it also marked the beginning and renewal of some intense rivalries.  Players from every level got after it and showed their ability and potential to make plays on both ends of the floor.  Teams were matched up well, evidenced by many close games that went down to the wire.  Several players increased their level of play this weekend playing in front of the audience of college coaches in attendance.  Read below about some of the top performers of the day.

Prime Performers:

Javaan Rogers- 2020- SG Diamond on the Hill-Dee
Rogers caught fire in the second half to help her team pull away from the Michigan Rage.  She relied on spot up shooting to bring her team back from a deficit.  Javaan finished the game with 5 three pointers and 23 points.

Caya Apostolou 2019  PG The Truth Black II
Caya led a balanced attack for The Truth in a win over Diamond on the Hill.  The 5’4” PG played hard on both ends of the floor.  She ran the floor for layups and made the open three point shot.   She was her team’s leading scorer with 12 points.

Megan McConnell 2020  PG WPA Bruins DeRubbo
Megan was the glue that held the Bruins together in a lopsided victory over the Michigan Mystics.  She was very steady in running the offense and shooting the three with accuracy.  Megan got the ball to scorers, and when they weren’t open, she always made the proper decision.  The team flourished when she was in the game.

Sharon Woodward  2018  SG T3 Sports
Woodward was one of the players who improved her stock during the weekend.  In Sunday’s game against the Michigan Monarchs, she displayed her ball handling and scoring ability.  Sharon scored 13 points in various ways.  She shot the floater in the lane, hit the three point shot, and showed a little flair as she took defenders off the dribble.

Alli Keyser  2019 PG Michigan Rage Red
Alli was key to her team’s victory over a very good Michigan Mystic squad.  She was the primary ball handler against the Mystic pressure.  With the ball in her hands, Alli was able to use her speed to drive through the defense and get to the basket.  The Mystics fouled her several times late in the game and Alli calmly stepped to the line and made all 8 of her free throws to secure the win.

Valencia Myers  PF  2018 All Ohio Black
Myers, the 31st overall 2018 prospect in the country, according to ESPNW, was a dominant threat in a 4-point win over Michigan Crossover EYBL. She made her presence known in the gym as fans and college coaches watched this scoring machine hitting from the inside and the outside! She was the total package, grabbing 11 rebounds and putting up 25 points. She ran from rim to rim and that resulted in a lot of fast break points for her. Also, she was able to catch in traffic and finish.

Gabriella Legister  PF 2019 WPA Bruins-Zeise
Legister is a monster! She was a great rim protector and used her size and strength to score in the middle. Legister blocked a few shots against Toledo Thunder Red and was a huge rebounder on the floor.

Jordan Edwards PG 2018 WPA Bruins-Zeise
Edwards is highly skilled guard that does a good job getting to the basket and finishing through contact. She was also great in getting her teammates involved. She’s very consistent in knocking down the 3-point shot in transition and attacking gaps to find her open teammates. She shot the ball well against Toledo Thunder Red and competed all game long.

Adrian Folks PF 2019 Michigan Crossover 15U EYBL
Currently under the radar, Folks is a legitimate next level prospect. She did it all this weekend for Michigan Crossover. She defended well, scored around the basket, and converted on a few “and ones”. She blocked a few shots and knocked down a few jump shots as well. She was most effective getting to the basket aggressively and finishing at the rim.  Adrian is a solid rebounder. She is definitely one to watch.

Madelyn Watters  SG 2018 CCE-DONETH
Watters was one of the best shooters all weekend. She was stroking shots from deep and she very effective as she came off screens to hit the big shots! Despite losing to All Ohio Black by one point, she hit five triples that kept her CCE team alive in a closely fought battle.

Kudos to this Bruins team that had an excellent tournament this weekend going undefeated at 5-0

WPA Bruins 2020  Lewandowski

Kudos to this Bruins team that had an excellent tournament this weekend going undefeated at 5-0.  In their last game on Sunday, they were in a “dog fight” with a very talented Michigan Finest team.  The game featured several ties and lead changes as both teams battled for supremacy.  At the end of regulation the game was tied at 34.  The Bruins held the Finest scoreless in the extra session and pulled out a 43-34 win.  It was a team win that included the steady and dependable play of PG Jayla Wehner, who took great care of the ball.  SG Tess Myers was tough on defense and was the team’s second leading scorer in the game with 11 points.  6’0” SG Kylee Lewandowski showed her versatility by getting to the basket, finishing through contact and knocking down 3 three pointers en route to scoring a game high 19 points.  Forward Cierra Christian was the defensive leader as she battled in the post, blocked shots and rebounded at both ends of the floor.  All in all it was a great showing by one of the best young teams in the tournament.
